Hi Guys,
Last time I touched AMD for my own build was like hmmm the AMD Athlon (Slot A), I still remember when I totally wrecked the motherboard...well was 20 years ago!
I was planning to get an Intel as they are (as today) viable and better value for money however the lack of PCI-4 support is a big no and I am a consumer so for me Intel or AMD really makes zero differences provided system stability and overall quality and availability of boards...and here is the issue.
I am looking to joining red team for CPU only, but I was rather disappointed by the extreme poor choice of motherboards except the gigantic ATC which were very cool two decades ago we grow up eventually.
I narrow down to these models (case is a h400 microATX):
ASUS ROG Strix X570-I Gaming, Mini-ITX Gaming: Love this one, I currently have a z370i which allows me to do whatever with my i7 8700k and DDR, it has same audio controller which is the 1220 and not 1200 and same optimem (although I could not find any tech review if that is just marketing, probably is).
ROG STRIX B550-I GAMING AMD Ryzen AM4 mini ITX: Well it is same as above but it retains some of that gaming look and being a Strix I know the quality isn't bad (and as above I know the bios).
This B550 has front USB C, currently I do not have it and honestly there is no use of USB C for mainstream stuff, I never ever used the one on the back of my mb in years...but looking at the next 3 years it may come in handy, features wise they are pretty similar.
My problem with both is that being mini the connectors are all on the side so the build isn't as clean, then again I am the only one seeing it I may optimize cables better as the case is really fantastic.
Until here all good, both are quality I can get on Intel too...now the issue is MATX, Intel has tons of great board AMD has NONE... the only one is the following:
ASUS TUF Gaming B550M-PLUS (Wi-Fi): No usb-c front, not sure about "optimem" as it does not have it, however the size isn't bad and allow for better placement of my AIO pump, connectors are at the bottom where my case also has great routing. It just really look like not premium.
Audio is 1200 not 1220 (I use Bose headset).
What do you guys suggest?
(Fanboys please vade retro...tech is tech not football).
