**AMD Radeon 390X Graphics Card WCE**

yup this is the truth... but what do you do, because the hardest thing is waiting and just saying no.

my bet is we'll get another 390X leak today or tomorrow.......... but the alternative is obvious, buy TX tomorrow and sell it in June......... or keep it, because i bet Booom will be doing this.

it's a straightforward 5 minute swap isn't it.....one single card for another.

Yeah I think that's what I'll do. Enjoy the Titan X, see what AMD have in store in June and it's it's worth the swap move on again.

Just waiting to pull the trigger now..

A 390X with a HIS 7950 IceQ leaf blower style cooler would be great. I bet HIS didn't sell as many custom cooled cards over the last 12 months.

Are HIS even around anymore, they only got 1 card for sale on OCUK?
I bet if Gibbo had a word with them around release time, they might just release an IceQ leaf blower style 390X card just on his advice.

I bet the IceQ leaf blower coolers were one of the most popular cards, last one I had was the HIS Radeon X1900XTX IceQ 3, can honestly say I had no regrets blowing £360 on that card.

I would pre-order one as soon as they were made available.

HIS 7970's were pretty good.

Its just a shame they now have those vomit coloured shrouds and yucky blue PCB's.

wasnt that long ago it was all blue
funny how it becomes not ok anymore!

id like more colors
grey red purple/pink :)

HIS, I had a 2900XT and a 4870x2 that was HIS, the 2900xt still going strong, the 4870x2 had a short life. but all in all they was just reference cooler cards from HIS, was cheap and cheerful

Yeah bit strange for NV to show their hand this early.

If Fiji ends up being faster AMD will have a year+ of superiority to lord over them.

I think it'll be longer than that ... AMD co-designed HBM with Hynix. NVIDIA only adopted it less than 18 months ago (previously they wanted to go with HMC only). They've also been working on stacked memory solutions for at least 10 years, NVIDIA only much more recently.

AMD's replacements for R9 3xx should be being released (on 14nm FINFET) by the time NVIDIA releases their first HBM series of cards (presumably on 16nm FINFET).

Nvidia announced stacked memory would be coming, but they never announced HMC, a couple of websites assumed HMC but that never actually came from Nvidia themselves, so you are just assuming that they "switched" to HBM recently.
Stacked memory is coming on Pascal, which will be 16finfet but I can't see HBM being a reason it gets delayed, that will be entirely in the hands of TSMC getting their 16ff+ out the door.

Afaik 16nm vs 14nm is all much of a muchness, determined by fab quality more than anything. I think they'll be pretty even at that point. Am personally expecting Pascal Q1/Q2 of next year :)

Not going to happen.

Also, re: the other poster, they were using HMC, and indeed still intend to for some enterprise products.

Re: Samsung / GF 14nm FINFET vs TSMC 16nm FINFET ... in theory very little difference, in practice I'd expect the former to be massively better. Samsung beat Intel to mass production, which says something. TSMC will have Q3 at the earliest, for tiny SoCs ... if you think big GPUs are going to be spat out in Q1 '16, you gotta be kidding.

Definitely more excited about the 390x after seeing the Titan X results.

I think AMD will absolutely smash it at 4K.

Agree totally, for the money they are asking I can see the TitanX suiting someone that is willing to buy 2 980's for sli as its almost as good, will be slightly cheaper and not have any sli worries plus being a single card. So anyone with gsync or looking to upgrade to gsync and sli will probably be better off with a Titanx

However I expect the 390x to absolutely smash it, I don't mind the wait, I can grab a 1440 144hz Freesync screen in the meantime and then add the 390x and then enjoy for a good while, even more once the dx12 titles land, especially if there is any truth in the Nvidia cards not getting full tier3 dx12 access

**** me there's some people on their periods earlier in this thread.

I always read posts by Kaapsted like he was a well thought out person but the passive aggressive is strong!

I'm no tech expert, but the points DM made were perfectly reasonable and if what he says is true (the 12 month development for a board) then it's quite clear that part of the article is just BS designed to fuel the AMD vs Nvidia fire. Also surprised at how many people come across as if they're in their teens in this thread.

I had a HIS 7950 IceQ it was ****ing awesome. It was my first high end graphics card, good value and good performance. Loved the cooler. Even though the blue theme was pretty cool.
