AMD Radeon HD 6950 and HD 6970 also come with 1 GB of main memory

For resolutions up to 1920x1200 1GB of GDDR is sufficient within every game I have played except for Metro 2033. Metro 2033 uses about 1.2GB on max settings using my GTX580 SLI setup (as measured within Afterbuirner).

For most people gaming at 1920x1200/1080 or lower, 1GB will be absolutely fine. A single 6900 GPU will not be able to handle Metro at max settings at this resolution anyway.

Funny. People are saying "1GB not needed" etc... but with a handful of games showing that you do (and those are pretty major releases), it won't be that long before we will be needing over 1GB on a regular basis, especially if you are enabling high AA and highest quality textures etc.

1GB is gonna be the budget option (if true), why are you guys fighting about it?

Agreed Scougar, there's nothing to argue about other than the typical few spewing out opinion as fact but that will never change.
It really doesn't take a brain surgeon to work out that 2gb of memory will have use in future games.
