A picture of part of the new cooler:

It looks metallic.

Yeah maybe i don't know. Those other ones look grey and this looks black. The design does look the same though.

Which again is for a limited BF4 edition subset of the R9 290X.

Hence,it is not really a true indication of what most R9 290X cards will be selling for,as only 8000 of the limited edition are being sold worldwide.

Even,Gibbo has indicated only 50 of the cards(or maybe a bit more) are available for sale by OcUK.
After taking price gouging into consideration, the bog standard R9 290X cards, are going to be cheaper.

You also forget that there is a R9 290 non-X being launched too.

Is a couple of weeks after the first batch is sold really that long to wait?

Remember, how people splurged money on the Geforce Titan, for the GTX780 to come along and do most of the job for much less.

I think you might have miss read his post somewhere, several hundred, which considering there is only 8000 worldwide is pretty good.

OcUK shall be stocking BF4 Editions of Sapphire, HIS, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI. OcUK is one of two exclusive Etail partners which has stock guaranteed en-route and we have several hundred units coming. So we can guarantee you will get a BF4 edition by placing a deposit with ourselves!

I really cannot see why AMD decided to have the launch on the 25th when they knew that they wouldn't have cards ready in the shops until the 15th and with non reference designs not being available for another 6 weeks your looking at Christmas before we see them.

Announcement without specs or any details really.
pre orders without price or specs.
No performance numbers at all.

The whole launch has been a shambles in my opinion.

In my opinion it's a stroke of genius!
Keep em guessing to the last minute.
AMD are playing a game of patience with there rivals.
Like they are playing Poker, very well.

AMD have been hurt many times over by Intel and Nvidia ruining their party.
Looks like they don't want that happening again.

Or you have a bag of turd and want people to pre order as much as possible before you unleash the numbers.

This came up before.
If they had of announced the card and said it is available now, at this price, then there is no way the competition can do anything before it launched. it is only because they are stringing things along that Nvidia has the chance to do something before the cards arrive.
