AMD will be announcing their brand new mainstream Radeon RX 5500 series today which are based on the 7nm Navi GPU architecture and aim both desktop and mobility platforms. Their details have been covered by Videocardz which includes official specifications and performance metrics.

AMD Radeon RX 5500 Series Unveiled – 7nm Desktop and Mobility Navi 14 GPU Lineup For Mainstream Audiences
AMD is not launching a single graphics card based on the Navi 14 GPU but three different parts, the Radeon RX 5500 XT, the Radeon RX 5500 and the Radeon RX 5500M. You can tell from the name that the first two cards are aimed towards the desktop platforms while the last variant, the Radeon RX 5500M is aimed at mobile platforms. The graphics card will compete against NVIDIA’s existing and upcoming entry-level Turing based graphics cards that are expected to launch this month.

Good performance being touted, so hopefully a decent card for the wallets.

The 5500 XT looks promising for 1080p'ers, the non XT is a non-starter with 4GB of VRAM, whatever the saving will be, it will be a false economy.

This isn't really true.
People will game just fine at 4GB VRAM at 1080P.

My girlfriend was using a bloody 750Ti 1GB on a 4K screen and was happy enough. Obviously I wasn't happy and that's why she's running a 1070 8GB now :p

eugh that low? if that is the case, can we assume there will be a 5600 which may hold the clear advantage over the 580/590?

Guru3d refers to 5500 non-XT 4GB one and base on the benchmarks below. It doesn't refer to the 5500XT with the 8GB ram and performance between 590 and 5700 non-XT

That card (5500 non XT) is replacement for 570/580. The 5500XT looks like replacement for 590/V56

Again, not true.
People don't all game on bloody 5700XT's and better.

It is, if you're happy with low settings etc then you can happily game on anything, that's patently TRUE, as many people do so. Your gf was happy with a 1GB card on a 4K screen. So you've even quoted an example yourself!

;)

There's nothing wrong with have low expectations and being happy with that either.

:)

I don't game with 5700XT or better either...

Is a new 4GB card really a great idea in 2019? Nope, the 8GB will be a far better option even for a few quid more. There's no excuses for selling 3/4GB gaming GPU's now. It is taking advantage of people who don't know any better.

You mean the one that is expected without the power adaptor?
Well, last we saw some OEM builds with it, so who knows - maybe a further castrated low-end card.

As always, there are performance tiers - top tier - Radeon VII with 16 GB, then lower tier RX 5700 XT with 8 GB, then even lower RX 5500 XT with 4 GB.... and the older generation cards that are still being sold.
