AMD VEGA confirmed for 2017 H1

Got to say looking glad I help off the GPU buying in 2016. Got to be one of the worst years in terms of brand choice and price. Hope 2017 is healthier.

I feel the same to be honest. It hasn't been easy because Dishonored 2 is killing my Fury X at 4K. Though it is more to do with the fact it is an unoptimised mess than anything else. If Witcher 3 can get me decent FPS at 4K and a mix of max/medium settings with no DoF then something that looks worse should be running much better. ~40+ fps with Freesync is enough for me to be happy.

I no longer upgrade my hardware just because a new game is running like crap when it shouldn't.

AMD shows Vega Cube with 100 TFLOPs

100 TFLOPs - He must have asbestos fingers :D

"We are AMD. Overclocking is futile. You will be Async computed."

"Crossfire drivers are irrelevant. Stock coolers are irrelevant. You must comply."

For balance:

"We are Nvidia. Trying to save money is futile. You will be tessellated."

"Async compute is irrelevant. Future-proofing is irrelevant. You must comply."

And if I could be bothered, I'd photoshop something involving Spock + Vulkan. Just use your imagination instead.

:o

Brilliant !!!!

That did put smile on my face as clearly you was on referring to an Titan X :p

It had a counter on the top right corner which was projected on the centre stage, however they only show us the demo from the screen, with such an angle that we couldn't see the FPS counter.

But said more than 60fps at 4K, which looks good.
No, not good. Even an FX8350 could have done that. Putting it up to 4K made the whole thing GPU-limited, which completely defeated the purpose of a CPU comparison.

Call me cynical but I reckon both Zen and Vega will be meh...

I want it to be different but I just don't see it...Amd are in the business market of this not end user high tier parts....

Will zen really beat Intel ? Or NV ?

Hmmmm we can only hope :p

Not sure how Zen could be meh? Anything around haswell performance for a lot cheaper is going to be amazing for most people who cannot afford £1000 CPUs (8 core versions that is). Great for rendering, video encoding, and other more CPU intensive tasks.

As for Vega I'm not sure, but I do have a feeling it is going to be great as well, just not as efficient as nvidia's GPUs.

We might be waiting awhile yet for Vega as there was 6-month gap between the first Polaris showing (CES 2016 Jan 6th) and the first cards were released (June 29th).

At this stage, Zen is looking more promising :)

What most people forgot about ZEN, that for the first time in many years AMD have the opportunity to compete on more or less level ground. Not 28nm planar tech against Intels 22 and 14nm Finfet.

They proved while 10% under clocked is similar to the i7 6900, if not faster.
Thats big, and completely puts into trash all 4c/8t CPUs. And if it's price is around £500, makes the £350 i7 4c/8t completely irrelevant and BAD value for money.
Let alone the Intel Broadwell-E series.

As for the Vega test they had last night, the 1080 at 4K ultra on Battlefront does around 48-50fps on the Death star map. (which is similar to the map presented from the rogue one). The Vega was faster than 60 fps.
