Bit and Chips! I just found it going through r/AMD_Stock looking for that post Doom got the picture from.

Everyone knows that AMD prices are better than Nvidia.

Not the AMD Reddit, the AMD_Stock reddit.

I never found that image there, and when I asked for a link he ignored me :(
I really wanted to see how the commented reacted to that image.

Not enough! We need moar!

Plus AMD has a habit of clocking their Professional parts lower than their gaming variants; and the Instinct MI25 is 12.5TFLOPS at 1525Mhz.

One would hope Big Vega can run higher than that.

Hell a Fury X at 1450Mhz is already at GTX 1080 numbers in Firestrike. So I would hope Vega can do better at 1500Mhz plus.

Especially considering it's Die size on 14nm compared to Fiji.
How can i post the link when it is deleted?

I would genuinely be surprised if Vega and the top vega for this year only comes out just a bit faster than a 1080. The MI25 card is clocked at 1526 MHz base clock. And from what ive seen looks passively cooled (not sure as it's supposedly around 300 watt TDP???) That is about 12.5 Tflops of performance. So with a actively cooled card id expect it to hit higher clocks with boost. The 1080 is what 9 Tflops so there seems to be a massive difference in theoretical performance. So id expect it to land closer to the 1080ti which is 11.3 Tflops but probably not beating it. Well not when the 1080Ti is overclocked anyways. As the 1080ti overclocked must be hitting near 12Tflops
When GTX 1080 Ti is OC than it is around 13.5-14 tflops

However, Tflops comparison is useless because GTX 980 Ti is around 6 tflops and beats Fury X ,which is at 8.6 tflops.

980 Ti is more like 7.5 Tflops running at real boost clocks. 6 Tflops would only be running at about 1060 MHz

Also much of the disparity in Fury X performance is part of the whole point in the Vega architectures upgrades (so AMD tout anyway). The FuryX couldn't properly utilise all its 4096 cores, due to inefficiencies in the design, which Vega is meant to fix.

Also the Fury X is starting to beat the 980 Ti in some new games with the new APIs anyway.

You can compare GTX 980 with R9 390X.

No matter AMD does with GCN still it will still require around 20% more raw performance to compete with Nvidia alternative. They need to change the whole design from top to bottom not just bumping and few new stuff.

Thanks for that. I couldn't remember the method of working out Gflops/Tflops.

So that's crazy! I didn't realise that my 1080Ti is kicking out around 14.7 Tflops of theoretical performance. And yea now come to mention it AMD don't ever seem to get near full utilisation of their full theoretical performance. And gain performance as the card ages. (FineWine TM) lol.

So that means Top end vega will need to have a boost clock of around 1650Mhz to 1700Mhz to even be close to a 1080ti in theoretical performance, due to how the 1080Ti boosts.

The 1080 when overclocked to around 2Ghz - 2.1Ghz has around 10.25 - 10.7 TFlops.

Okays looks like the Vega card if it is clocked around 1500Mhz will end up being just slightly faster than a 1080 lol. Dammit. I hope this isn't true and i hope AMD have really improved things in the architecture.
That what i said 6 months ago when AMD announced there pro VEGA cards. GCN always require 20% more Tflops to compete against Nvidia counter part and nothing will change because of its design.

Well lets hope all these improvements AMD have touted that it actually gets them closer to their theoretical performance similar to nvidia. nVidia does need some stiff competition in all segments in the GFX section.
No improvement can change that much. As i said it requires a lot invesment in R&D and need to change the whole architecture to gain that, which cannot happen because of AMD commitment for consoles and they have very less amount of money for GPU R&D.

Hello, I am here to bring you some important information about Vega. Yes I know many people here have been waiting patiently for some substantial information about Vega from AMD. Well I am happy to say your wait has finally come to an end.

Today I will reveal the full Vega lineup and release date! I will include spoilers so Google does not pick up on important parts.

The RX Vega lineup will come in 3 flavors to cater for different price points. The stated aim is to contend directly against the GTX 10 series.

Spoiler.

RX Vega "Super" - RRP: $499.99 (1080 PERF or better).

RX Vega "Hyper" - RRP: $599.99 (1080TI PERF or better).")

Please note: The RX Vega subnames were still being decided on by the board room at the time so are subject to change but those were the most popular ones amongst the engineers along with "Core" "Eclipse" & "Nova".

And now for the grand finally... DATES!

(/s"The Vega teaser is May 16.

The full Vega reveal is May 30 - June 3.

The official release of Vega is June 5")

P.S Do not ask me for my source. If I told you my friend would lose his job. Let's just say it is rather "Sunny" where he works... ;)

P.S.S Let the downvotes begin. I am expect that I will be flamed for revealing this info despite being from a legit source. If you don't believe me feel free to come back to this post in 3 weeks.

AMD Reddit one of the reason why AMD share tanks and people do not buy there GPU. There are idiots in majority on reddit ,which will believe anything positive post about AMD by a unknown random guy.

Goodness Dark prediction day is Dark.

Even with GDDR5X the HBM2 should offer over twice the memory bandwidth of the 1080ti. This is a large step forward from the Fury X not the 480.

The top Big Vega will launch with performance at least 5-10% higher than a 1080ti in DX12 and close to par but probably slightly ahead with DX11. AMD know what they need to beat and they will not release a new flagship product that does not deliver that at a minimum.

I predict that the top Vega will spank a 1080ti in DX12 games at 4k that have been designed with AMD in mind - but I also predict that for the top water cooled Vega we are going to see some interesting pricing - especially with the low manufacturing rates we have heard rumored.

Ok i can imagine that if AMD beats GTX 1080 Ti around 5% to 10% still it will not guarantee the profit ,which AMD wants or promised. AMD is taking losses since 8 year going to toe to toe with Nvidia. Today Nvidia data center revenue alone made more profit than entire AMD Q1 earnings and even with RX series and Ryzen 1 month launch did not come even on par with only Nvidia data revenue.

Everyone knows that VEGA will be more expensive for AMD to make compare to GTX 1080 Ti and AMD knows they cannot sell it cheap. AMD is slowly moving away from high end GPU market and going towards console, APU, mobile, and pro market.

In short, AMD always made losses in high end GPU market and going toe to toe with nvidia and they cannot afford to make another loss.

Great post.

To highlight some of the costs, nvidia spent $3 billion developing Volta and they supposedly spent around 2-3billion on Pascal. Sure, that 1080ti might have $200-250 of material costs but the R&D alone is massive.

Nvidia is a totally different company compare to AMD and even Lisa su has said in her earning call to stop comparing them Nvidia and there R&D budget. Lisa also mentioned that they will take a different market and path compare to Nvidia.

R&D is the backbone for tech companies ,however, in 2016 AMD has lay off many western engineers and hired many Chinese engineers to work on VEGA because they have a very short R&D.

Some people think in this forum that , god like slides, twitter trolls, hate marketing, and fantasizing is better than capital, investment and R&D.

Nvidia also has design centres in China and for over 12 years. Seems to have some issue against design centres in Asia - funny since JHH is born in Taiwan and so is Lisa Su. These are global companies who hire talent from all over the world and have offices in all the major economies.

Taiwan people are dam good in tech.

"marketing, sales promotion, customer service, and technical support in China," That isn't design.

Anyway, i don't really see it as an issue anyway. Silicon Valley is full of Chinese and Indian engineers, they have exceptional education and it gets extremely difficult to get enough Visas for them to join the US. There is a massive skills shortage and sadly Trump just wants to make the situation worse. Its going to be very common in the next years for R&D to be conducted in Mumbai or shanghai. There is some cost saving for sure but its more than pure cost.

that said, Nvidia is infamous for having a very large pool of extremely talented engineers, much like Google. They pride themselves on having the best of the best, and often over-staffing projects.

Nvidia employees are really smart. They really make good architecture overall like for gaming, data center, professional purpose, AI, mobile, cloud.

Hold up here. Is Doom trying to disparage an entire race, saying their work and design is inferior?
Chinese People are awesome. However, my point is that western employees are seriously expensive to hire and Chinese people are not so this is the route AMD has gone to for to save money.

I hope not, I think he was trying to infer that MD is spending less money in using Chinese offices but that is not the actual issue. As I aid above, its mostly down to insufficient skilled workers in the US and an immigration policy that results in foreign offices being set up.
Yes thank you for explain it in better English. My english is bad.
