He stated they "laid off" many of their "western" engineers to replace them with Chinese ones. Hmm, anyone got a link that verifies that statement.
Last I read AMD has been recruiting as much as possible all over, even going so far as to get Raja back from Apple to lead their GPU R&D.

The last piece of news I can find of AMD "losing" R&D staff was then Jim Keller left in 2015 after having worked on Zen.
The oldest article being from 2011-2014, where they were shedding 10% of their staff.

Since then Management has changed and they've been recruiting and head hunting people again.

AMD, which was founded in 1969, employed more than 10,100 workers last year, including 1,900 in Austin, until an undisclosed number of layoffs in late 2015. An AMD spokesman has said slightly fewer than 500 employees globally would lose their jobs in a move projected to save the company about $2 million and $7 million in the third and fourth quarters of the fiscal year, respectively

It just takes 2 mins to search.

Be Careful with ole Hibben, he's a bit of laughing stock to some SA members, and the king of cherry picking.

Then again most SA writers are the same, anyone can write there. :p
Mark Hibben is the worst Journalist just like Charlie who predicted Nvidia will get fold in 2015 by AMD.

DX12 will take off when Nvidia wants its to take off. If Nvidia wants its to be dead than it will be dead no matter how much people like it or hate. AMD can only be audience and watch Nvidia to decide the faith of DX12.

DX12 Windows store games.
Battlefield 1 performs really well under DX12
The Division
Tomb Raider after its patches
Hitman does really well
Sniper elite

And others I have forgot about them above perform much better than the DX11 api and most of them are also Patched in DX12

I even remember way back when DX11 was coming into its second year it was still not performing better than some DX9 titles think colin mcrae game was one of them. DX11 also didn't out do DX9 in released games for quite some time, just like we have now odd game here and there... DX11 will go down the same path has DX9 and will slowly start fading away when more and more game engines are updated.

Anyone have a list to compare how meny release titles maybe first two years of DX11 titles vs DX12 they is? Be interested to see how fast the market tuck to DX11
Does not matter.

PC Major market is MMO and all are based on DX9 or DX11. 80-90% revenue of PC gaming comes from MMO games.

Not all! WoW runs on Metal for Mac now :p
My point is that DX12 do not contribute financially in PC gaming by any means. 90% pc gamers do not even care if it is DX11 or DX12.

Only Nvidia can give it a financial success and if they want to market it. Market will shift if Nvidia allows it and if not than we can only dream about low level API on PC.

I said this many times but some people are too much in denial.

VEGA is more towards pro consumer market than gaming. AMD VEGA will not even properly beat GTX 1080 leave alone GTX 1080 TI in 95% of gaming titles.

I said again and again in this forum that AMD will not beat pascal by any means or at any market. They will only beat Nvidia in pricing.

PRO VEGA vs Quadro P5000

In short, Quadro P5000 is 20-40% faster than Pro VEGA in AMD owns slides. 3rd party slides will be more brutal.

http://wccftech.com/amd-radeon-vega-nvidia-pascal-gp100-performance-benchmarks/

Nvidia is not Intel like sitting and waiting to get nailed. If AMD has plans to beat Nvidia than Nvidia will have 10X more plans than that to bury AMD.

So therefore let's all constantly hate on AMD?

You do realise if AMD fall even more behind or go bankrupt it will be bad for us all right?

Anyway. Not going to go into all that with you again. Lol :p

I never want AMD to go bankrupt but what i hate most is silly and childish marketing. Mocking Volta ,even though they have no idea what Volta is about to bring, Overclockers dream and look what fury X turns, etc.......

I want AMD to knock Nvidia out ,but AMD market is based on la la la land. If AMD comes to reality than i will only buy AMD products.

MD will announce Vega at its 2017 Financial Analyst Day and of course none other than Raja Koduri will share a few more details with us.

The call and the event takes place later today at May 16, 2017 1:00 PM Pacific Time, 4:00 PM Eastern Time and 11 PM Central European time and will be webcast.

It is not roses, roses though, as Fudzilla has learned that Vega has experienced some delays and issues, and we are working to get a few more details. AMD has committed to ship the Vega first HBM 2 GPU before the end of the second quarter, but even if this happens, the numbers will be limited and its performance might not be as great as the fanboys expected. From what we know, Vega won't be able to beat the Geforce GTX 1080 Ti or Titan.

The original plan was to launch Vega earlier, but since this is highly complicated silicon, things tend to go bad. Let’s not underestimate the cost of HBM 2 memory as well as shortages.

AMD will have the following people at the call so expect to see the full company’s overview and a bit more about the desktop, notebook and server strategy too.

Coming to VEGA. I seriously hope for AMD GPU future that they do not miss lead people like they did with Fury X. Keep it simple that is the only thing that can save RTG.
