So another thing I've noticed going from x370 to x570.

Ram. I used the dram calculator and gave the fast timings a shot.

The fast timings were CL14 at 3600MHz at 1.45v dram.

On my x370 mobo it would refuse to boot.

On the x570 not only did it boot but I was able to game on it for about 20 mins before the game crashed on me.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge and skill could get it stable but I'm happy enough at CL16 3600MHz.

I suggest you try 3733 safe setting. It is very stable on mine. I use under 1.4v.

Also any lucky with getting better clocks on cpu? Did you overclock at all?

Is 3733 the max where the IF should match 1:1 before it goes out of sync?

I'm running 3600 cl16 (stock) with some tighter sub timings.

Wondering if I could just increase to 3733 and leave If on auto and see what happens.

Basically up to 3733 you are guaranteed to be fine. Going 3800 depends on luck if your cpu can handle keeping that 1:1. As I do not want to push things to the bleeding edge and potentially suffer from instability or some other issue, I opted for 3733. I get a good latency from it which would not improve much anyways if I went higher.

Just input 3733 safe settings in. At least the primary settings anyway.

IF can go up to 1900mhz so RAM max is 3800mhz before going out of sync. Going out of sync is fine if your CPU just does workloads but for gaming always keep it in sync

Got my 3960X running at 4.3 GHz all core with 1.275V. Way better than what PBO was managing which struggled to keep sustained all core clocks over 4 GHz and was pumping in 1.35V at times.

I don't think my FCLK goes higher than 1800MHz... although I haven't tried any ranges on this board between 1800 and 1900 FCLK.

I'll try it later. Haven't bothered to overclock the CPU. I tired the Buildzoid XFR overclock in that video I posted a while back.

I didn't test if it made a positive difference.

When you set fclk higher does it just refuse to boot or does it crash etc?

Also are you on the latest bios as on early bios for my board IF would crap at anything above 1867 but newer bios I was able to lock in 1900.

I can get in to windows with an FCLK higher than 1800 (I've tried up to 1900) but I get various issues.

Garbled audio, pc resets etc...

I'm on the latest BIOS yes.

The thing is the FCLK is on the CPU not on the mobo and the only thing I changed here was the mobo (x370 -> x570), so it makes sense that my FCLK remains at 1800MHz.

There would be little to no point in taking FCLK above 1867Mhz anyway, because up to 1867Mhz you will be running the ram 1:1. Once you go past that the ram will be running 2:1, so unless it will run some super high speed with very very tight timmings it will actually be slower than 1867 anyway.

1900 is fine if your cpu will do it, just need to set ram to 3800 and manually set 1-1.

In theory, yes. In reality, no. Runnin 1:1 at the fastest and tightest timmings will be faster. I simply dont understand this "quest" for a high FCLK. Just have a look at who has the highest CB20 desktop result at the moment on this very forum.

R20 is a CPU benchmark with those scores being under LN2 though and when LN2 overclocking you drop the ram down for stability.

Ah shame. Maybe the CPU is not the best silicon. 1800MHz is fine anyway, you can make up for any loss by further tweaking the secondary timing of the ram.
