Without AMD, to this day, I believe Intel would still be churning out 4 core mainstream chips, each iteration requiring another new motherboard.
 
Im really torn on what to buy. Truth be told I only really game. So dont need bags of cores. But then I have an issue buying the 3800x because it's now "mid-range" even though it could be just as fast as the 3900x in games. As for the 3950x, well that would be fun epeen but for £750 I am well out. Not dropping that on a gaming CPU.
 
Will be interesting to see some benchmarks with RAM at say 3200 and ram at higher speeds.

Theoretically I am needing a new board, faster ram and cpu to get the absolute most out of it.

I see, the naming conventions always seem to change anyway.

But yeah I can see where you're coming from as well. But essentially the chips that leaked to be reaching 5ghz just wont be coming out for now, and will almost definitely be released at a later point.

I think you maybe thinking of Precision Boost, that's unless wikichips hasn't updated this entry for a while.

IDK what CBS or NBIO setting do on the X370 Taichi but i don't think they're related to PBO.

Movies are about 15% more expensive then their z390 counterparts. PCIe Gen 4.0 is more expensive - main reason and not so much the VRM increase (bulk by they are like $0.5-2.0 each )

In your case I would go for the 12 core, will be fine for years of gaming.

Im leaning on the 12 core for sure. But wondering if I should just get the 8 core. I dont stream. hmm. might depend on X570 mobo costs,

P.S. when are we getting prices on the X570 boards?

12 core is more future proofed, so its probably better off going for that.

Though it depends on how often you usually upgrade. If its fairly often, then it might be better to go for a cheaper chip and then upgrade when you need to. However if upgrades are rare, you're better off spending more on a better chip now that'll last much longer
 
Any thoughts on what RAM to buy for Ryzen 3? Seems like current prices are:

3200 MT/s @ 16-18-18-36 = ~£80
3400 MT/s @ 16-18-18-36 = ~£90
3200 MT/s @ 14-14-14-31 = ~£135

I'm thinking the middle choice would be best right now.

Well, if it isn't PBO then someone at ASRock is terrible at naming options :D

It also most certainly boosts my CPU performance when enabled and gives much higher all core boosts.

Didnt AMD say 3600Mhz was "optimal" now.

Or just go with some Micron E-die 3000MHz 15-16-16 for <£70 and overclock, and fiddle with the timings. ;)

its like asking if nosmo 370z is worth extra over 370gt... Depends on person. for me moving from 1700x to 2700x was worth it so now moving from 2700x to 3900x is worth it.
