Was just looking at a well-known pc shop that shows views per product in the past 24 hours.
5600x: >1200 Views
5800x: >900 Views
5900x: >6800 Views
5950x: >1100 Views

5900x views seem crazily high.

Its quite clear why views are higher. AMD are really marketing it as the best gaming solution and also used it in their recent reveals.

The more I see of the 5600x the more I begin to wonder if the 5900x is worth it.
Depends on your use case. If you spend most of your time rendering, encoding, compiling etc - sure, it'll save you hours a day of compute time. If you're interesting in gaming, then no, the extra cash would be much better spent on a higher spec GPU.

That would depend on the games and the rest of the system configuration.

The way I see it PC exclusives will become rarer and rarer due to the similarities between both consoles and PC’s. Given that new games will likely be optimised for 8 core CPU’s I’m aiming for an 8 core 5800X as a minimum. This upgrade will likely be in my PC for three or four years.

I don't really understand this, sure the new consoles have 8 core CPUs, but the 6 core 5600X is almost certainly more powerful (just going by the Zen 3 architecture and console power budgets). There's nothing special about the number of cores, it's computational power that's important, and achieving it with 6 core rather than 8 is probably better.

No different really to the 10600K which when OC already matched a 10900K in gaming for the just under the price of a 5600X, the trouble is at that market segment people don't want to spend £300 on a 6 core hence why the 3600 outsold the 10600K even though the 10600K was a stronger CPU in single core, multi core and gaming.
