Is the 5800X a bottleneck for RTX 3080 GPU? My PC is in my sig and I'm thinking of selling the 5800X and upgrading to 5900X/5950X, but only if it's worth upgrading. I'd expect to need to upgrade the cooler (BQ! Dark Rock Slim) if so.

Very little difference between 5800X/5900X/5950X in gaming as most games don't use more than 6 cores. Depending on your resolution the 5800X3D may be a step up but if at 1440P or 4K I'm not sure I'd bother.

If you're after gaming it makes absolutely no difference.

I think the difference will come with the next gen GPUs that will need more CPU power. I'm betting my AM4 system will last longer with a 5800X3D but we'll have to see.

That not going to make any difference for gaming, literally nothing. The fastest gaming CPU currently for your board is the 5800X3D.

Thanks for the responses - I am experiencing some lagging when copying and moving files while I have Inventor 2022 open and Satisfactory running in the background. Wondered if the 5900X/5950X would improve that.
I know the added cores would be great for rendering images from my 3D models but that alone wouldn't warrant me making the upgrade.

It might, i wouldn't like to say, impossible for me to know, you are probably better placed to answer that than most, its your rig, you know what its doing, it could be that the extra 4 or 8 cores will fix that, or it could be that your software just sees those extra cores and says "oh, ta very much i'll use those too" and you have the same problem, only you get the work done faster.

I'm interested to see what continuing support for AM4 will do to lower end Intel sales...could be a real bargain for anyone not wanting the expense or speed of DDR5/PCIE5

Edit: Can't type!

Tempted to upgrade but I game at 1440p/4K these days on a 3600X/3080. I’m guessing anything short of a 5800X3d wouldn’t really be worth it and even then I’d probably be GPU limited in most titles?

TBH at times the discussion from a few posters on here gets gets very close to the worst of the comment sections on Videocardz/WCCF etc and the only thing that keeps them in check here is the moderation.

AMD fanbois are the scourge of the internet, their hatred amuses me, I've never seen a more deluded crowd than /r/AMD_Stock
