Found this official PDF detailing all the horrible old clunker bangers cubed under the American equivilent of our wonderful scrappage scheme. Just look at some of these complete nails now removed from the roads:

DB7 Volante 1997 1
A4 Cabriolet Quattro 2006 1
3 B5 Audi S4's!
6 E38 740i Sports!
1 E46 330Xi
1 E39 facelift 540i
1 BMW E34 M5
10 BMW X5's?!
Nearly 70 2000-2008 MY Mustangs including 1 2008 model
5 CURRENT SHAPE Range Rovers
9 Jaguar XJR's, yes, XJ *R*
6 Lexus IS300
A 2005 Mazda RX8
12 W220 Mercedes S Class
2008 Saab 9-3 Aero
2 Stage 3 Roush F150's
4 Volvo XC90's

And numerous other things. What shocks me is quite how many late model vehicles there are in there. Numerous cars up to and including 2008?

Still, thankfully these horrible old clunkers are now firmly where they belong. On the scrapheap. Replaced by a low CO2 car!

I would currently give my right arm for some/most of the cars on that list, makes you really sick to see.

Also it shows you just how stupid yanks really are.

Is there any sort of list like this for the UK?

How much did they get off? £2000 equiv in dollars?

$4000 or something, their government aren't cheapskates like ours - and the new car had to have better MPG than the old one.

Eligibility criteria
Vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the trade-in date.
Generally, trade-in vehicles must get a weighted combined average rating of 18 or fewer MPG
The new car bought under the plan must have a suggested retail price of no more than $45,000, and for passenger automobiles, the new vehicle must have a combined fuel economy value of at least 22 mpg.
Trade-in vehicles must be registered and insured continuously for the full year preceding the trade-in.
Trade-in vehicles must be in driveable condition.
Credit
Depending on the type of car purchased and "the difference in fuel economy between the purchased vehicle and the trade-in vehicle", the amount of the credit given in the form of vouchers to eligible customers is either $3,500 or $4,500.

you don't know the condition of the cars though
they could well have been undeclared write-offs or something

That's because Americans are retarded.

Yep, exactly right. All Americans are idiots. Every single one of them.

I could point out the stupidity of people in this country regarding the scrappage scheme - a '54 Riley RME nearly copped it, an immaculate Moggy Minor Traveller nearly met the same fate, a well-used but solid Humber Super Snipe just barely escaped. These cars were all saved from the crusher fortunately (since it is possible to buy them back, a fact that most people in this country seem to have missed), but how many more weren't?

Just goes to show how stupid Brits really are. Because Brits are retarded.

Some of those cars are worth more salvage than the scrappage value. I mean what do you need to do to a 2008 Saab 9-3 Aero to make it worth scrapping under this scheme bearing in mind one of the rules was you must drive to the dealer with it?

I can't believe they scrapped most of that stuff, XJR's, X5's. Range Rovers, face lift E39s etc, unbelivable and tragic.

There is some trickery going on in there, no dealer in their right mind would scrap a 2008 mustang instead of giving somebody $4000 off their car and selling it into the trade.

I very much suspect people have been duped into trading stuff under scrappage, yes.

But the American system forced the car to be destroyed, engine was destroyed by the dealer and so on. There was no buying back or whatever.

Which means that if the car is recorded as scrapped, it is scrapped so the dealer didn't get to sell it on into trade.
