I post on another forum that has active duty on it, who post from where they are based (ain't the internet a wonderful thing)

One of these chaps works on JSTARS

This is something he just posted, another battle won in the name of freedom. I've toned down the language to not offend our gentle mods ;)

NOTE: Callsigns and grids have been changed to protect OPSEC

I'm surveilling an area (some direction) of (some Iraqi city). My surveillance tech finds what appears to be a mover someplace where no mover should be. I have a 2 ship of F-16 CGs under my control.

We observe the mover for a couple minutes. It moves towards a friendly route, then scurries away, holding up near a copse of trees.

I decide it is a possible IED emplacement situation and call it out:

Sieg: Viper 21- JSTARS, have mover, say ready

Viper 21: Viper 21 ready, go.

Sieg: Viper 21, have mover 59AB, keypad 2, say ready details.

VR21: Viper 21 copies, 59AB, ready details.

Sieg: Viper21, elevation 131 feet, grid 24ABC 123 456. How copy?

VR21: Copy 24ABC 123 456

Sieg: observed mover in vicinity of route whatever, then moved to last location, over

VR21: copy all, time over target 4 mike.

About three minutes pass.

VR21: JSTARS, appears we have some kind of animals at your location. Think maybe dogs

Sieg: Copy, "dogs"

VR21: No... wait it's two dogs. Oh my god- no way... Looks like one is mounting the other.

VR22: No way man, what's that grid?

VR21 passes the grid to his wingman

VR22: No way! they totally getting it on!

VR21: JSTARS, we have two dogs getting it on.

VR22: I'm gonna tape this. This is good stuff!

VR21: You getting this stuff? Tape it man, tape it all

VR22: Oh yeah... he's really giving it to her, too!

Sieg: JSTARS copies, two dogs getting it on

VR21: right man.. they're going at it.

VR22: Viper Ops is gonna eat this stuff up.

So... um.. that was the highlight of my night. Good news, our MPT guys are trying to get a copy of the video. ***IF*** we can get it, ***AND*** we can get it declassified, I will email a copy to ***

Billions of dollars later, we can now detect dogs being dogs from 30,000 feet :)

I have no idea where I read it, but for some reason a "fact" has remained in my head about the equipment on a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird.

Apparently even back in the days when it was used as a reconnaissance plane (1960's-1980's) its camera equipment could track the motion of a moving golf ball on the ground. This plane flew at 80,000ft...

I don't think dogs are that good at multi-tasking. And they don't make very good insurgents anyway. ;)

They used to,

Dead one by the roadside, stuffed with explosives, I mean how harmless is a dead dog ??
