For those who play this game will be pleased to know the latest version is out today. Bad news is it is a full install only (no update) so be prepared to download a 2.5Gb file.
It isn't officially out until 8PM UK time, but they released it to an Army website yesterday, so there are torrents out there, but if you go here, you will find downloads for a split version.
If you haven't tried AA before, it is worth trying as it is completely FREE, and has a lot more realism than CSS or BF2 (NO bunnyhopping headshots).

OMG THIS TAKES THE ****, HOW THE **** AM I SUPPOSED TO DOWNLOAD 2.5 GIG

3 rd time i've had to buy a preloaded dvd off ebay

I played this the other week (not 2.6) and multiplayer was absolutely terrible, i hated how you couldnt pick your weapon, is this version any better?

I think its based on the Real life army so why should you get the option to pick what weopens you use?

Is this now playing on a new graphics engine?. I played it a few years back but didnt think much of the graphics, heard they were re-writing it for the doom3 engine

Don't think so, I thought version 3.0 will be based on Unreal Engine 3? This version is based on the unreal engine 2? I could be wrong of course ;)

Yes the current AA uses the Unreal engine used in UT2004.
This new version is a major step compared to previous updates. They have included a driveable vehicle now, certain maps utilise an AI bot system, to give you more enemies to fight against, and there is a new hud system, which like BF2 gives you an interactive map of your surroundings, which if you report an enemy, all your squad will see the location on their hud.
There is also a new map which is a first for major FPS games, a level with 6 fully interactive floors. I can't think of any other game which has open floors greater than 3 (other games have more floors but once you go up you can't interact with floors lower than 2 below you).

So it doesnt have helis and planes, etc Its just mainly ground based, infantry warfare then. How many players maximum and how big are the maps

No helis or Planes because its Advertising and is used as a recruitment Tool For the US Army.
Not navy or Airforce ;)

Yea I figured that and thats why its free but I dont know what special airborne or naval divisions the army might have. Whats the highest rank you can hold, field marshal general like a commander in bf2?

It would be best to go on there site and check it out :)

BTW if you get this game you have to sit through a medical exam on it :p

Yea Ive heard lots about it, but not curious enough to bother with 2.5gig at the moment and my main machine is down anyway so I'll stick to bf2.

Might try it as im bored, although I hate running through the training stuff before I am allowed to play online :(

Yea last version i played i hated doing all that stuff. Got tired of the last version, might give the game another go, will have to see.

Was never keen on the graphics in AA, too dated for my liking. Will probably give it a go when it's on the new engine.
