Hi

I just paid for an item with paypal with my amex credit card as my source, but before I paid for it, the amount was converted to US dollars? The covertion was right with the exchange rate that they gave me, but will this mean that they will charge me like if I was aboard? Come to think of it, does AMEX charge for using their credit cards aboard like visa and mastercard?

Thanks

I have a corporate AMEX and also a personal card and neither of them convert my purchases into USD (unless im buying things on steam mutter grumble)

This is standard for Paypal for some reason, not on any other purchases.

They credit the conversion fee back to your account automatically and you usually end up slightly better off because of it overall.

Really? and they dont charge for doing it in US Dollars like if your purchased an item aboard?

I logged in to my nectar account, purchased it was buy it now so I should get the points on my nectar card. Used a 20% discount code with a credit card that still gives me 5% cash back. On a whole transaction I think I saved £61.42 off the RRP of £169.99 and got points on my nectar card.

Yes, they do charge you for foreign currency transactions but Paypal and Amex have a deal where they'll credit back to your Amex account this fee (but they usually credit more than the fee costs so you end up better off).
