Amp problem

Hello,

for some reason my front L/R channels on my amp dont seem to be working..

At first I thought that it may be my speaker issue. So I took out the C speaker and wired the L/R channel speaker into the C channel. They both worked.

That leads me to believe that the Amp is at fault. Now I'm not sure what could have caused this. Do you guys have any ideas on how this problem could be fixed?

I have a Denon 1610 and my Amp is around 13 month old. I don't think It's in warranty now:(

Sorry I'm a bit thick when it comes to this. What do you mean by just A/B speakers?

Everything has been working fine the past year, but just the other day the front L/R speakers stopped working.

My amp has switchable a/b speaker outs. The only way to tell which is selected is tiny light on the display. Sometimes my kids press theswitch button and when the do this get no sound because I have no speakers on the b outs. First time it happened I thought my amp was broke

That is what whitecrook is on about i believe. See the speakers A--A+B --B buttons beneath the treble dial. Those switches only tend to come on older stereo amplifiers that allow running a 4 channel matrix.

Since you are on about a 5.1 channel surround sound receiver this is unlikely to apply. See if you can run a test tone via the amp itself. My marantz has a button on the remote saying setup/T.Tone which gives white noise down each channel individually. (FL, C FR, RL, RR, S then repeats) If you don't hear sound, this will isolate the problem to the amp itself, the cables that link it to the speakers or the speakers. (as it is not dependant on an external source, but you've tested the speakers on a separate channel which rules them out already) If you do hear the sound, it is likely to be something between the source and the inputs on the amp.

My amp is a recent Yamaha receiver model 361 I think. Even using test tones won't eliminate the possiblity. At least it didn't when I tried it when I was puzzled why I was getting no sound.

Just had a look and you are right, there is a speaker selection button on that yamaha. I've been out of the loop with surround recievers, as this is a feature i've not seen for a while. My marantz is knocking on 8 years old now.

Looking at the front of the denon you've got, there is a speakers button, just under the screen, between the sleep button and restorer button. Whitecrook may well be right as there is a front A and a front B speaker output on the back of your receiver.
The upper pair of speaker outputs is the B channel. The fronts that sit amongst the rest is the A channel.

Hey guys,

I finally got around to testing this around an hour ago.

It was indeed an A/B issue! Somehow it changed over to B all by its self! I clicked a button, set it A+B and all is working great!

Thanks a bunch guys, you've saved me a few quid that's for sure!

It's much appreciated!

I should hope so! I had never been presented with this kind of issue before, so I was just a bit clueless as to why it was playing up! Thanks again!
