An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Why the **** does shaders preloading take so long. Haven't even started it and it is already annoying me.

Why does everything in life just gradually get worse and more frustrating to do/use?

Only does it one time.

Wondered that myself, because that took ages to run compared to other games that do the shader preloading. When I checked my CPU usage, my 7950X3D was doing sod all during the preloading. Usually most games that do that absolutely hammer the CPU, but this game didn't for some reason. Considering the crappy frame time performance and the hitching, I don't know why they even bothered to do it. Probably wouldn't have noticed it if it did the caching as you played anyway.

Aye, I'm feeling this. I quite like some 'remasters' but is this just lipstick on a pig? Polishing a turd? I don't mean that to sound harsh - I loved the OG Oblivion back in the day......but that was back in the day!

Wrapping UE5 botox around old games and old game engines is a dodgy tipping point of PC gaming I think we might have ahead.
Yuuup. The gameplay is dog pump.

Good god man, how many caves did you miss. I'm about a hundred hours away from even starting the main quest :D

I did some quests for the brotherhood and a couple other side quests and explored about 5 caves but otherwise just did the main story. After a while every cave just looks and feels the same so I didn't see a point of exploring further

I think it's a single thread game due to its age, so it has poor cpu utilisation

Yeah oblivion was like that. Skyrim caves were more unique .

Morrowind has 400 of similar caves/dungeons

On a performance note; can you guys imagine how well Witcher 4 is going to run hahah

Some people said they were buying a 5090 for Witcher 4, but they're gonna need a 7090

reading up on it, i'd stronlgy recommend users who are playing on pc to wait for skyblivion rather than play this remastered. skyblivion will remake and even reimagine some of the game, well at least up to skyrim standards, changing towns, making forts more impressive. i think it's a mistake to satisfy any desire the replay oblivion, with skyblivion so close

My recommendation if you want an elder scrolls type of game and can only get one of them, would be not get either Oblivion nor Skyblivion and get Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon instead :)

Got excited for another ES type game and searched for it and eww... Early Access Game. Not a chance am I parting with £38 to beta test a game.

I kind of get it from a console gaming perspective. With no mods for OG Oblivion on console, and Skyblivion being PC-only, Remastered is the best option. But on PC...

OG Oblivion has a huge number of mods available & can be improved hugely over it's vanilla state.

And then we have a full Oblivion remake coming in ~6 months in the form of Skyblivion.

Until/unless mods can be ported over to Remastered, it is arguably the worst way to revisit the game on PC. But I'll admit the new character models & facial animations are tough to do without now.

That looks rather interesting.

I think I might give up on the remaster tbh. Runs mediocre on my 11600k and 3060ti, but that aside I I find it kinda ugly tbh. There are parts where I think it looks good, but overall I don't. Can't put my finger on why exactly - technically it should look good, but in all honesty I think I find a basic modded Skyrim more appealing looking TBH. The only thing I can kinda compare it to was Fallout 4, where that looked much better than the previous ones and yet it didn't seem as visually appealing as it seemed like it should.
As such I'll probably just end up trying skyblivion, it'd be hard for that to run worse and it'll probably look more appealing to me. Maybe it's the art style. *shrugs*

Should just port skyblivion to the remaster. I just watched couple minutes of Skyblivion gameplay and the graphics are far worse than the remaster

There is a uniform blandness to the visuals possibly due to some procedural generation of variations i.e. areas of rock are all just pattern variations of the same thing. The lighting sucks - same with Hogwarts Legacy it permanently feels overcast even when the sun is out. But also a lack of character in the visuals - while some places look like a piece of art it still feels very technical rather than artistic.
