My rooted first gen nexus 7 has been upgraded to Android 5 and I'm not sure I like it. It now takes five minutes to load up, seems generally less responsive and the keyboard is horrible. Is there a way I can get back to the latest version 4? Or am I imagining the slow ness and should stick with 5?

Was it via an update or did you do a factory reset? Not just with the N7 2012, but I also noticed a few other Nexus devices sometimes require a factory reset to get Lollipop to run smoothly. I did a clean flash for my N10 as I expected there to be a few problems due to the massive change in OS. If you're still rooted, you can back up your apps with Titanium backup, do a factory reset, restore your apps, and see if that helps.

It did it via an update. I'm not bothered about losing my data; I don't have anything important on it other than dropbox stuff, which will redownload obviously...

In the end I just thought i'd try a cyanogen ROM with the minimal Gapps as I don't really use my tablet a lot and it is pretty worthless now so no hard if I bork it :D

Tegra 3 with lollipop. Can't imagine that working well to be honest.

Android is a much heavier OS these days. 1GB of RAM is the minimum needed.

It will also be a perception thing. There are more flourishes and animations in lollipop which will show up the weakness of Tegra 3.

Go i to Developer Options and disable some of the animations.
