Android - What could Google change that would tempt you over?

I know that obviously most people in here have an iPhone. Assuming you're not someone that will blindly stand by an Apple device whether it is the best or not, what does Android lack that puts you off it?

I think it's most likely 4 main things -

1. No iTunes alternative at all, love it or hate it, it's good to have

2. Clearing out the junk (or at least hiding it) from the Android Market and having more polished apps and a proper game selection, more like iOS

3. Manufacturers being dodgy with updates

4. You have absolutely no use for widgets and various other 'advanced' features on a phone

Any thoughts?

Biggest thing for me is iTunes. The store rather than the software. But what ever drm would be on it, it needs to work on windows desktop as well.

Also dislike that apps have no checks before being put on the app store. Unlike apple/windows. Which have checks.

Also don't like no standard software, which just breads problems and speed issues, requiring a brute force approach by hardware.

But really it's just the lack of media. It needs iTunes or Zune equivalent.

Ideally what I want is w7p tile like interface, sd card slots. Standardised hardware or only a few options. Tightly controlled apps. Media access in hd and preferably not DRM but if so, needs to work on HTPC as well. Flash would be a bonus. It it's not the big issue I though it would be and it's a dying format, however it would be useful. Decent docks, something apple excels at. Made possible with standardised hardware, shape and size.
Overall I think windows platform suits me the most, while still not delivering everything I want.

I'm an android user, however the biggest let down for me is navigation. Google Maps works however its not as good as Nokias Ovi Map, and I tried copilot which I couldn't get along with at all. For that reason alone i carried my E72 till the screen gave up the ghost.

There's loads of programs around that will let you sync an android phone with itunes.

I find google navigation to be very good! It's not quite as accurate as a tom tom but it's pretty damn good for free!

Read it again.
It is not the software, iTunes is a media STORE, just like Zune. Android do not have a media store. Samsung have a media store but only works on a couple of the Samsung-android devices and. It on desktop PC.

The thing that bugged me the most was having to clear the notifications bar constantly when I had a Desire.

There are other minor things other people wouldnt even notice that bug me, that's just the way I am, even things on the iPhone, though these are getting less and less and next to nothing on iOS5.

I moved from a iPhone to Android as I like to fiddle and play about however there are things which I wish were better which have mostly already been mentioned.

- I want the market to be better policed, too many rubbish apps on there and the search is terrible also.

- Standard software would be better also but it's never going to happen. I don't like some of the 3rd party "skins" like Motoblur/ Touchwiz etc.

- App compatibility. I don't like that some apps don't work correctly between phone and tablet devices. Of course this will mostly be resolved with ICS but it's currently annoying and is something that should be covered by the policing of he market if it existed. Even some apps are allowed to install on a tablet but they don't work properly with landscape orientation.

I don't have any issues with the market in terms of media available as most of my music/films etc is acquired via other means. However it is improving in this area with movies now available and music should be coming very soon according to some articles.

Robbo - Perhaps try a similar thread in mobiles to see what would make people make the opposite step. Might get some decent discussion before chaos ensues :P

Still rubbish though and still means for me it is out of the running. Until its sorted if ever. Even when you can buy, the chances of it being able to run on a HTPC are low.

Be great if they solve this problem. Music isn't an issue, plenty of mo3 sits and of course no DRM, so. It isn't a problem android not having a music store.

Standardised software release with centralised updates that aren't reliant on a manufacturer.

No bloat from handset makers please. Bad as buying an Acer or an HP PC. :D

iTunes, but maybe they may implement something into Google music?

Some of the apps aren't as refined but this is because all android apps are allowed where as apple scrutinise all their apps on the App store.

I could, but people in there either hate Apple with a passion or won't accept anything less than a 'super customisable' phone which Apple will never provide.

Google could easily provide the things mentioned in this thread so far, it doesn't really work the other way around.

Mainly for me it would be a better app store, with no risk of malware and much higher quality apps. When they provide that i'll consider swapping.

Same for me. Plus when more companies put Android apps out first rather than the second thought after the iPhone.

Also I'd be tempted if they negotiated some deal where you could get your iPhone apps for free (unlikely I know!).

UI, UI, UI. Android has been through several major revisions, yet it still looks like it's been put together by people who know nothing about UI design. The interface elements aren't consistent, the on-screen controls appear in different places depending on the app, the hardware buttons do different things in different places, and there's just a general lack of 'polish'.

Put simply, Android - like most Google products - is ugly. Highly functional, but ugly.

This is my main gripe too. I've actually started using my old 3GS because it is more supported (officially) than my newer Desire! Android handset makes seem more interested in releasing the next bit of hardware that the software side suffers. At least with Apple you know when your phone will be superceeded, and even then you know you'll still get iOS releases for several years.
