Howdy!

I've just finished reading Bravo Two Zero for the first time, even though it came out over 15 years ago!

I thought this book was ******* BRILLIANT I really did, the way it is written just had me refusing to put it down when I was tired and needed to sleep!

Being in the military and able to know and relate to the work that goes on by these guys made it even more intense for me.

While reading through the capture/torture phase and seeing what his body might have gone through kept making me go to the gym and beast myself :D

If you haven't read it yet I highly recommend it!

I just wish I knew how much of it was real and how much was made up.

I thought it was great story too until the arguements began as to how true it was. There was a book released by one of the patrol members after the real bravo two zero book- Soldier Five by Mike Coburn. Has anyone read it? I think its fair to say whatever the truth is Andy McNab used his imagination quite a bit when he was writing Bravo Two Zero.

arknor - While buying some xmas pressies online I have also bought myself the DVD with Sean Bean to watch :)

edit: I'm annoyed with myself because he came to my workplace about 12 months ago signing copies of his new book back then (unsure what it was) and I wasn't that interested. I wish I had gone and asked him how much was real!

Its a great book, its a pity its mostly lies though.

There was a book written by a former SAS guy who traced "McNabbs" so called steps and actions, and actually interviewed some of the people who he encountered.

The first engagement, the heroic firefight with the Iraqi patrol for instance, simply didnt happen.

Maybe not the most sensible idea? Assuming every other fact in the book is a lie, he was definately in the SAS and maybe wouldn't be best pleased about you bringing up the subject:D

Good book. Don't bother with the film though, it was poor to say the least. Although it did make me understand what sort of a situation they were in with the goat and the boy part, what the place they were staying in looked like etc.

As mentioned above his novels are very good too!.

As to how real it is? Who cares, the mission really happened, several members of his patrol really died, he really got caught. Also, i think you'll find when anybody goes through a traumatic experience they exaggerate a bit.

You also have to wonder, were his patrol mates just saying he was making it up because they were jealous on him making a mint from the turmoil and debunking his story was the only way they could cash in on it?

I'm with Chris Ryan, at least he got away. :D

I haven't read any of McNab's "Nick Stone" novels since Last Light, I can only imagine how grim his life is now. :D

"One does not simply walk out of Iraq." :D
