For a while now, I've been getting a very annoying freeze/crash at idle or just when browsing. It never really seemed that common to crash when in game or under stress.
I recently decided to flash my BIOS to another beta version from MSI. Firstly.. I was surprised that the 'memtest' wouldn't actually load up when I was overclocked, so I had to revert everything to standard, then do it again.. and it was fine. (Could have been the issue I suppose).
Flash went through fine, and I reset BIOS and battery pull etc. Since then it seemed to actually remember a x42 multiplier, and it has been really stable.. no crashes at desktop or when browsing. I'm sure I'm even using less voltage than before.
I'm really not sure what has happened here, but my frustration has been lifted, I barely even touched the BIOS after the flash except to re-enable the correct boot order and AHCI etc.
Anyway.. I thought I would share as it was pee'ing me off and now it all seems fine after a week
Also.. just to say, the support from MSI guys on their forum is actually excellent. Very much recommended, unlike Asus who seem to ditch their customers. (In my experience).
Edit: Googlemoogaly pointed out to me that it might be the OC Genie on the MSI board auto clocking it to 4.2Ghz. Now I do remember OC Genie flashing up after the flash.. so that seems likely. I'll look at it later when stability has been proven more, and I can up the overclock
Presently: 4.2Ghz @ 1.32V
