Annoying problem with key ignition / sheeringwheel lock

Nothing major but its just really irritating. When i used to put the keys in the ignition the steering wheel would unlock so i could move it, then i could just start the ignition fine. For whatever reason lately when i put the key in, the wheel still stays locked and i have to keep turning it from left to right then back, then same again like 3-4 times while trying to move the wheel and then eventually the car just starts immediately all of a sudden and its fine. I vaguely recall having a £10 steering part fitted as part of my last mot and suspect the problem has been since then. I've no doubts that the car will start its just annoying it wont start at first attempt like it did.

Anyone else had this? is it something really simple to fix ?

(car in question is an mg zr if its of any relevance)

I believe this happens to every car when you lock the sterring wheel.....

I thought the same... On most modern cars you have to wiggle the steering wheel to unlock the ignition. My fiesta doesnt though

on my almera you have to turn the key backwards a wee bit while wiggling the steering wheel to unlock it??

yea thats what i mean. It used to be fine and you wiggle it and it becomes loose (the steering wheel obviously

) but now it wont sorta unlock until after the cars started and you need to move the key left/right like 3-4 times before it seems to realise your trying to start the ignition.
