Another apparent failed motherboard

I currently have an ASUS A8N SLI deluxe. Recently I've been getting more crashes to desktop and BSOD with page faults. So I decided to to a memtest. On the 3rd pass the PC reboots and this time the bios thinks it's doing a restore. Try and reset and this time the message is totally garbled.
So I reset the CMOS to see if that helps, no. I try the BIOS restore from CD. It attempts but the screen is still corrupt.

So I try and re seat the memory which is twin 512 MB geil value sticks. This provokes a different response but still not fixed. So I try just a single and everything is back in business. So I memtest each module seperately and each is fine. It's only when I try and run dual DIMMs. So I'd say the MB is shot or does anyone else have any ideas?

This has been on stock since I had it but this is the 3rd board I've had as the others have all had failures of some sort or another.

Pretty much lost faith in the board so what would other people recommend?
As this is still under a year old can I just ask to swap the board for a different type?

Thanks,
Anthony

Was the memory bought as a matched pair ? Are they on the tried and tested list from asus?
Have you tried using the other pair of memory slots i.e. try them in the blue slots then try them in the black slots, it might give you a clue if one of the memory slots is dead on the board.

Yep, bought as a matched pair.
Also tried the other slots and it won't boot in those either.

Seems like slot B1 is the only one that appears to let the system boot.

Have you got the latest bios for the board? if not flash the bios with a single stick of ram.
This might sound silly but, try re-seating the CPU because the memory controller is on the CPU with socket 939 processors.

Yeah I am on the latest bios.
I'll give the CPU a reseat and see if that makes a difference.
Just getting fed up with what seems a problematic motherboard.

Just another question. If the CPU re seat doesn't fix them problem how do you determine if it is the CPU or motherboard?

Is there any software that I can run that would be able to say if the mem controller is faulty or not.

Any one any ideas?

Another update is that I forgot to try all the modules in the different channels.
Having done this now. Nothing works in channel A but both DIMMs work in Channel B.

This issue is I still don't know how this helps me determine if its the board or the CPU.

I would think its the board. Might be an idea to get a different board next time.
I've never found a CPU with a partial failure, I'm not saying it couldn't happen but, its less likely.
