I've been considering this for a while now and have pretty much decided it's time to go 4K (further inspired by my previous thread looking for the Onkyo setup mic). Overall I'd like something with the same features as the Onkyo TX-SR875 but 4K capable + the new sound formats.

Essentially my needs are:
5-6 HDMI ports
component video input
4K capable
I'm currently running my Onkyo TX-SR875 in 7.1, so the same or more is required.
Pretty much standard now, but the ability to use the TV speakers for when the cinematic effect isn't needed.

I don't need a tuner or a power amp stage as I have these separately (however not a strict requirement as I'm yet to find any without).

Cost around £1000. Then once I've got some ideas I'll take a look in more detail, listen to a few and make a decision. That'll then pave the way for more new equipment (TV, 4K Blu Ray, etc).

Thanks, I hadn't fully considered a Yamaha unit, but on reading the spec of that I'm very impressed. Does seem rare in this country, but I've found a few places selling it at just under the £1000 mark. Reminds me of my old Yamaha DSP-AX620 that I've still got running today in another room!

Thanks Peahead for the Marantz suggestion, another one to consider, and I think it'd look great alongside the TagMclaren power amps.

Ov_sjo, I'll bear that in mind with regard to the 3050, and potential deals on the 2050 and reductions on the 3050. I'm not in a huge rush just yet as I don't have a 4K TV or Blu-ray player yet, I just decided to make the starting move.

Thanks all for your help, I'll see what happens with prices and read all the reviews. Several great amps out currently that I wouldn't have thought to look at. Perhaps look at getting something in the next 3-4 months...

PS; Thanks Grimley, I'll also be looking at the Yamaha specs and reviews.

I'll bear that in mind HDMI 2.0a looks to be what will be required, the main reason being the Dolby Atmos and DTS: X. 4:4:4 colour is also a factor as when the TV gets replaced it will be with an OLED TV. I might just bite the bullet and get a 4K Blu Ray player with the amp, and when more content is available I'll look at a new TV and getting Sky Q. I already have an Amazon TV (4K) so that is one of the factors making me want to upgrade.
