Another first car thread!

A Fiesta ST is certainly possible given your circumstances.

Run a quote through Bell, even without NCB you should get a decent quote... Make sure you add parents as additional drivers.

No doubt these points have already been suggested but I can't be fussed reading through the thread! :)

Nice one. I can see value, reliability and comfort were top of the tree when you made that choice.

I said it was a bonus. Which it is.

Even a 04 MK1 Focus looks like a car designed in 1996/97. An Astra, or for that matter the majority of it's rivals do not because they were not.

Bell = £1907.00 for ST

I've only just realized they show you the 10 month amount first so that elephant one further up will be even higher :(

I will have to wait till dad is back to see if adding him will help, if it gets it down a couple of hundred I may have some luck on the phone but not too hopeful

It really is my favorite choice atm and I don't get bored of things quickly so can easily see myself keeping it for 5+ years

Damn insurance!

Read up. ;)

The 328i cost me £800 to insure whilst I was 21, 0NCB and an accident to my name. Postcode does a lot. ;)

I'm just going by the quotes that I was running earlier for when I (eventually) turn 21. Similar sort of deal, license since 17, mum added, just in my case with 3 years NCB and I was getting lower figures for 400BHP+ supercharged Jags than he's getting for that fiesta, and I know for a fact that Birmingham doesn't out scum South London .

Elephant accepted my named driver ncb that I got with directline, cant hurt to ask insurers if they will accept the fact you were a named driver on a policy for X amount of years?

I think general opinion of the 1.8 in the Focus (mk 1 at least) is that it feels almost as slow as the 1.6 whilst having almost as bad economy as the 2.0. Rather than managing the best of both worlds, it actually seems to manages to encompass the worst of both.

I think it is the lack of NCB that is biting him more than the Postcode.

I doubt it. I have a friend who lives in Birmingham whose insurances quotes quite literally halve when he changes the postcode to somewhere in Nottingham or Loughborough. Insurance quotes for him on anything fairly powerful are absolutely astronomical.

Oh and IMHO the Astra is inferior in almost every way to the Focus.

No claims has a big play in price, my insurance does not change going from my postcode here in oxfordshire to birmingham. But thats with 15 years no claims..

Tbh the MK4 Astra is a better car than the MK5, although they are getting on a bit now. The focus has its issues but is generally a better drive than the Astra but I would buy the Astra over a focus but then i,m vauxhall through and through and I think the Focus is a Horrid looking car...
