Another HD 4870? Or 6950 (Toxic?) or 6970?

I'm moving to a 15 2500k system and upgrading to a 1980x1200 screen
(or 1980x1080 if, as it seems, there's very very little at a decent price that's not 1080p... :( )

I've been looking at the 6950 Toxic edition, as it seems most, if not all, can be unlocked whilst the opportunity to unlock other 6950s seems to have passed.

Given that the Sapphire can be had for about £50 cheaper than the 6970

Thing is, I could just add another 4870 to the system. For £100 less than the 6950.

But I've heard Crossfire isn't just up to scratch on lower powered cards (micro stuttering?) and am not convinced my PSU (A Corsair HX 620w I'm really happy with) could power both?

Xfire has definatley been improve for the 6*** generation cards. The 48** series do run hot anyway, so that may be a problem aswell.

On the reviews i have read it say that 4870 CF is simular to a single 6870. So the 6950 should out-perform it.

The toxic ection has a BIOS switch which unlocks so everything is at 6970 standard. I don't think the shaders move though (i may be wrong).

I'd say 6950 or GTX 570's are at a decent price now, simular to the 6950-6970 range. Worth a look i think.

you are wrong, the shaders get unlocked from the standard 6950 to the 1536 of the 6970(tho it's not guaranteed it's a significantly higher chance than the current batch of other 6950s).
