I had just said goodbye to pheebs as she went of to walk into town, when two minutes later she calls me saying "a car just ran into me - I'm Ok though". For a second I thought "But shes walking, not in a car...what is she talking about?!" and went down to collect her and make sure she wasnt going to go into shock or anything.

Basically, she was walking down The Avenue in Southampton, and was crossing at a set of lights that were red and bleeping for her. She went infront of a stopped lorry, then heard screeching of brakes and a car bump into her leg. She said she put a hand out onto the bonnet and pushed herself forward out of the path of the car, which then continued to roll across the crossing whilst Pheebs stood their dazed.

He then sped off with the light still red - but this really gets me... He gestures at her and effs and blinds at her as he drives away.
I'm truely shocked and disgusted at this guy. I could swear till I'm blue in the face - but these forums wouldnt be so accomodating towards me.
No he didnt sound like he had any authorotive reason to run a red light, or to speed away without acknowledging that someone he hit was ok.

Pheebs unfortunatly didnt manage to get a look at the full reg, which I'm not surprised about. She got a make of car though, a reg letter, and a color. Apparently the guy driving it was late thirtys maybe, and looked foreign... Not that his nationality makes any difference.. but still.

I kept an eye out as I drove pheebs to her destination, but he was probably long gone by then.
/rant and disbelief.

Grrr I've just seen dark_shadows thread - What a sorry state of affairs the world is in

Yea, I mean, 50 years ago it was a perfect world wasn't it?
Whatever fox.. not a helpful post tbh. If we want to be pedantics - 50 years ago bleeping pelican crossings werent around, and cars were not so common place - okay dokay? Not in the mood for that kind of comment.
Fine line between a bump on the leg and going through a windshield

hope shes ok,
what is the county coming to if people don't even stop when they hit someone?
I am sickened by this, I realy hope they catch this guy and throw the book at him

:( Sorry to hear that.
Hope she's not too shaken up, and lucky that it wasn't more serious!

i could tell you a million stories where ive had some close calls with east european immigrants not obeying the road signs/markings and have tried to crash into me:
- following a windy road and crossing lanes (not staying in lane)
- changing lanes and not indicating even when its not clear to do so
- wanting to race at traffic lights
- pulling up really close to my rear end...grrrr.

i rate chavs higher than these people!

glad Pheebs is ok Pickers, thats the main thing.

Sorry to hear that, glad she's ok though. Some drivers are retarded! Have had that happen to me, crossing the road on a zebra crossing, bus had stopped to let me cross then as I stepped out from beyond the bus a car came driving down overtaking it and made me sit on his bonnet. Fortunately saw it coming and it wasn't going too fast so I could hop up onto the bonnet rather than it taking my legs out!

I'd have hoped that things could have got better in that time.
I'd have hoped that most people would have the balls to face up to what they do/did.

Yeah shes ok - she was on her way for eats with someone who is leaving her work - ironically police staff. So I picked her up and dropped her to the restaurant. She wasnt too shaken up, but is chronically miffed about the whole experience...

Did you leave satisfying dents in the bonnet?

A few years back, my wife was at a crossing waiting for a chance to get across. The car to her immediate right stopped, but a car came flying up behind that one, crossed to the wrong side of the road and blasted through the crossing. This idiot missed her by a very small amount, and the occupants (young asian lads) were jeering at her and threw a can at her as they flew past.
I only found out about this when she came through the front door, burst into tears and fell into a chair while shaking with terror.
There are people out there who are complete and utter idiots, and it's a shame that decent people have to share their lives with them through no fault of their own.

OP, i'm truly glad that Pheebs didn't get hurt.

With the law as it is, its in the best interest of the driver not to stop after an accident.
Could you elaborate on that? Its in all criminals best interests not to get caught. If it was a genuine mistake then any respectful person would have stopped and admitted responsibility, rather than drive off hurling abuse at a victim.
Yes I am taking the moral high ground.

Thats not what he meant

50 years ago it's more likely someone would apologise than shout expletives and drive off. The pace of life was different, everyone is constantly on edge these days.
