ok so i've seen this film 2 dozen times + i reckon but as i get older i find i am noticing things more and more in some of my all time favourite films. watched predator last night and 2 things occured to me

1. Rick Hawkins. He is the team's radio operator and technical expert. is he killed first purely because he is the one who presents the first opportunity for the predator or was the predator wanting to kill him off first due to his skills in communication?

2. i also noticed that the predator doesn't actually attack anyone until they enter the valley. never really took any notice of this before but surely it must happen for a reason?

i know predator by its very nature is a far fetched sci-fi but these 2 things showed me that maybe this film has had more structure to it than i thought.

1. I always thought it was just the preds first oportunity, he ran off after the girl and was seperated from the team therefore an easier target. Although your point is valid and could be part of it.

2. I see it as waiting till deeper into the jungle so more cover to hunt.

you could also factor in the predator is 'learning' their style, hence letting them get into a combat situation before engaging with them

this crossed my mind too in the hostage capture ie. if he was there purely for fun, it would've wiped everyone out however, it appears he is there for sport and learning his opposition and this situation gave him the perfect opportunity to learn
