Another rapidshare rant

Don't see why people use it as a d/l service either. From what I see it's split into small parts and all of them are separate links. At least with usenet you have indexing sites and simple NZB files.

Just select all the files, right click and download. then right click one and extract. Either that or 'download all links' (and check the ones you want)

Fair enough. I may check it out one day, but I guess I'm just set in my ways. One click, check back, done.

I have never understood the point of rapidshare, and I dont feel im missing anything?

What is the point of it, what makes people pay for it?

As was discussed in the thread last week, it's like having your own private torrent tracker without any of the hassles of torrents.

Yeah, split archives. If all the archives are in the same folder, WinRAR reads them as one file. No problems :)

Megashares for the win.
£15 for 6 months.
Accound shared with 3 friends = £5 each for 6 months.

1 link downloads. We can easily download over 50GB each, everyday.

Rapidshare may have more content but Megashares always have the latests stuff.

2 hours max if downloaded from MS.
3 days if downloaded from RS.

damn those download speeds are fast. orange would have a baby if i downloaded 150gb a day! last year when rapidshare was normal my dad got a letter about downloading too much. (no not 10gb of porn a day)

Hardly fast speeds. This is from Rapidshare. I always get really good speeds. Most other download sites I don't even get a 10th of these speeds, even with premium accounts.

5mb a second??? Im happy with 250kb. surely even with an annual rapidshare account you hit a limit if your downloading for a few hours on that speed? (If theres no limit on rapidshare your hard drive will run out anyway!) yep, if im right then 5 hours downloading = 90gb

Well if you have a faster connection than me, obviously you're going to have a faster download speed.

Uni's wifi on my laptop.

I came in on RS right as they went from unlimited -> 10Gb and that was a big enough shock to start with. 2.66Gb daily is measly especially when you're like me and download the wrong versions of things :p

e: Eugh, they've also upped the number of points you need to extend your account from 8000 to 10000 :/

Think that sort of speed is pretty standard for most uni's :p

yup, if you live near a uni, register for a cheap it course, you will get a logon then anytime you want to download stuff just take it from their connection. Just keep failing the module and signing up again. I don't know how cheap the cheap courses are though :p probably not worthwhile.

This thread makes me feel cheap. I've got a download manager which I just copy links in to. I just queue up a few things and leave it going over night. There's a 15 minute wait between each file but it slowly makes its way through them. Not quite as fast, but it's free and frees up my upload bandwidth for torrents so I'm not complaining.
