Another spec me a [sports] car. £6-£7K

Better off with a pre facelift at 7k. And with the notable exception of the roof motor there isn't anything scary enough to make warranty a must. One of the last BMWs for which a spare grand tucked away is sufficient.

Stop justifying my thoughts on dropping a wad of cash on a Z4 before summer!

Hopefully without derailing the thread too much, in your professional opinion Fox.... pre-facelift 3.0 or facelift 2.5si? I really like the idea of a nice bmw warranty on a 06/07 facelift but the fact I can't really afford the 3.0si annoys me a bit. A mint FBMWSH 3.0 pfl might be a better option as long as I keep an eye on the roof drains?

The prefacelift 3.0i is quicker than the 2.5Si. It's also not a particularly great facelift. The Z4 is quite uniquely styled - everything fits the lines of the cars, ie the back lights. The facelift seemed to be a facelift for the sake of it - the rear lights on the facelift, CELIS as per the E39/1 Series Coupe etc, just look out of place and don't seem to fit the lines of the car.

You'll get a pick of really nice 3.0i's for the money, too.
