Another UB joins the ranks.

The hardware forums are where this place started, so getting some Dons/UB's with more hardware knowledge to help out makes sense.
That may well be the case and it is probably overall a good move, but unfortunately for me, the way it seems to have been done has left a bad taste in the mouth :/

It's got nothing to do with you.

Sum's it all up really.

When a forum become's too lifestyle orientated that is all it is about; people's lifestyle. To me that means the site becomes just about the people as opposed to what OCUK is really about and thats computer's. I dont think it's a site about who being who and meeting people, that is not the reason I joined in the first place, but my useage of the forums is slowly switching to that. If it were just about the people it may aswell call itself Myspaz and we all know what we think about that place!

As OCUK has become more about the member's I think it has become less welcoming for newbie's. Although the forums are massive already they could be bigger. I know this counters the point about GD being bigger than all the forum's together but I think there are a lot more people in the world that require technical assistance than people that want to sit and discuss genereal carp with one another.

:p If Im talking carp myself please correct me but if I were Spie Id be all for a move away from our local 'hero' online society and towards the globalisation of OCUK.

OK :)

The thing that (for me) sets this place apart from the other lesser techy UK forums is the people that frequent it (in the main) and the sense of community. Not the level of skills and knowledge in the hardware forums, because most of the people in there are on all the other hardware forums IME.

Congratulations, NathanE!

I personally welcome more UBs (and maybe dons too?) in the hardware sections. I spend most of my time in OC and Cooling and GH and I have to say that the admins are rather poorly represented there. No dons, MoHs or UBs at present frequently post in these sections, really - well not like in GD, anyway.

Agreed and well done NathanE. :)
