I am researching my new pc and need some advice and recommendation regarding choice of card.

I want to be able to play Oblivion/Tomb Raider and such at max or fairly high details. (I don't play online games such as BF2 and CSS2.) My monitor max res is 1280x1024 and unlikely to buy a larger monitor.

Is it worth me spending out £328 on a X1900 XT?

If not what card would give me max settings at 1280x1024?

I'm aiming for a AMD64x2 4400 with 2Gb Ram if that makes a difference.

I bought the card in my sig only a few weeks ago, got it for £230 from OcUK and I have to say Im very impressed. Ive not played Oblivion, this sounds be a very demanding game - my advice would be spend as much as you can justify on a gfx card if your a gamer.

If you have the money then yes ,if not then get the x1800 xt or a 7900 GT :)
But there are hundreds of threads on this topic and you would find all the info you need by simply just doing a search ;)

Heh yeah I know, far too much info - i get easily confused!!

Think I will go for the 1800XT - just a matter whether to go for 256 or 512 version. Does the extra ram make a lot of difference?

There's supposed to be a german review based on the x1800xt 256mb vs the 512mb model.

The conclusion tells of a pretty big difference in some games and small in others. COD2 was supposed to be about 10-50% faster.

They agreed the difference was only on res 1280x1024 and higher
