*** Any 6970, 6990 info, pics & leaks post in here ***

there no point buying 6970 if u have 480 well , if u get good return of ur 480 if u sell second hand then u can get 6970 , but as it will only be 10 ~15 % improvement its not worth the fuss for 480 users.

if u have 480 the only thing you should be looking forward is 6990 or next gen.

Just as there was no point in buying a 480 when you had a 5870. Did not stop many people from doing so. lol.

Some people to like having the best card on the market...at least for a few months until something better comes out :) Each to there own really considering the only difference you see is in bench marks.

I doubt there will be any point in buying a 6970 over a 5870, I doubt we will see any games with anywhere near the tessellation levels of heaven extreme

Reporting on the change to 4D shader units from the previous 5D, reckons 20-40% improvement.

"With the use of 4D-5D-held units increases, at best, the shader performance by 20 percent if one assumes the same, theoretical computing power.
The extra functions will take some more space because they are more flexible / complex. Nevertheless, should that fail four larger still smaller than the five smaller ones.

Solid information on the number of Shader units are still unavailable. Hottest rumor is the fact that 4D-480 units (1920 stream processors) instead of 320 units 5D (1600 stream processors) are installed. That would bring the shader performance increase in frequency between themselves 20 and 40 percent percent - einberechnet an also planned, higher-performance Tessellation did not."

From charlies latest tweet

IT'S THAT TIME of year again, yes, November, time for new high end GPUs to bloom. Luckily, ATI, sorry, AMD, is right on schedule. Cayman samples are now at AIBs.

Yes, you heard it right, some AIBs have Cayman chips now, and if everything else holds true to form, they should be on the store shelves across the world in 2-4 weeks. The kits come with a Cayman and some 6Ghz GDDR5, so the memory clocks will end up between 5.5-6GHz.

There are a lot of really bad rumors going around the net right now so be careful what you believe. The two things that we know are true is the memory speed and that barring a last second glitch, you will be buying them before Dec 1. Everything else should be taken with a glacier sized grain of salt.S|A

Pretty sure that both 6970 and -90 will be completely overkill for WoW.

And I know how the game can look at max settings, which is very computer intensive all around. Just do not think that it will push the extremes for GPU to the level where you actually need that much power.

Then again, it just feels so very, very good to see your fps stay sky high and never worrying about it dropping.

do we know any what the rumored performance gains of the 6970 compare to the 480 ?
just so i can try and work out 6970 v 580 performance wise
