Question to anyone who knows about Art...

I know art by definition is subjective and its value and perception is as much as how much the buyer is willing to pay. But surely a print you find on the highstreet on sale for £9.99 is never going to worth more than £9.99. They "can" be so mass produced so it's not worth much more than the paper it is printed on a lot of the times. With some exception of course.

I look at lots of art on the internet but I don't own any worth mentioning.

I suppose if it was a limited edition print that later became popular or if it had a "defect" that made that particular print unique then it might gain some value.

You wouldn't expect to find a print with an expensive price tag though. Famous paintings for example are expensive because they are usually one of a kind, whereas prints of that particular painting are just.. prints and hold no rarity or attachment to the artist.

So yeah, you're correct. A print will probably never appreciate in value due to so many of them being produced (I think that's what you were asking

Of course, this could happen too. But on the whole, prints are worthless.

Well, some prints DO gain value, i mean in terms of photography, since the original is the negative so THAT negative is one of a kind but that is never for sale, only prints are. Ansel Adams prints are expensive, especially the 1st Editions. I am hoping mine will (but that's not why I bought it), its numbered 1/30, its signed & framed by her, and I know its authentic coz I met her in person lol

I am standing next Lara Jade, the photographer of the prints that I bought.

She's the girl whom got a Canon 350D for her 14th birthday or something and took loads of self portraits and one of them was used on a cover of a porno in the states and she sued them and won.

And in that case, yeah I don't see why it wouldn't appreciate. Signed by her, framed and being original is different to a £5 print off a website.

Well, the tricky part of getting that home, during the snow back in December, on the train!!!!! So scared I would fall over and breaking it and breaking myself, its fairly heavy.

And yeah, people think its Katherine Jenkins lol
