We're thinking about getting our first dog and we really like the look of the BB breed. We're looking for something that is docile and doesn't take too much exercise which seems to fit the BB profile well.

The only concerns I have is that we are both out between 9am-4pm and also how destructive are they, we have a new house which my wife is very protective of! We have a large garden with garage and shed, but I would prefer not to keep it outside as I want it as a home dog.

I have read some of their downsides, drooling, big snorers etc but still love the look of the breed.

Does anyone own one and what advice would you give?

Although it's our first dog I have a lot of experience with them as I lived at home for 5 or so years where we had a labrador.

Lastly, the whole buy from breeder or rescue thing - obviously being a dog love I'd love to help rescue one, but what are the practicalities of this?

Thanks!

I had a British Bulldog but I sold it and got a Polish Bulldog, much cheaper to feed and never complains.

Aren't they very prone to hereditary issues?

They are; so I would suggest finding out more about Victorian Bulldogs.

My friend is a breeder of these dogs and would recommend them to anyone who is looking at purchasing a bulldog. They do not suffer from the hereditary problems mentioned by Gilly.
