my ol mum at 65 is a stranger to the internet, she bought a cheapo laptop from ~~~~~ for £350 or something, now she aint keen on internet but i said i would try and find out if there are any broadband trials to see if she would like broadband full time.

Ideally a 1 month trial would suit but i cant see any provider offering 1 month trials, am i wrong and are there any trials.

My other thoughts were getting a monthly contract broadband provider and let her try this but with no set up costs or modems needed, i have a bt voyager modem kicking about wich i xould give her so is there any monthly contracts with no set up fees would work with this voyager modem.

thanks

It costs the ISP £40 + VAT to activate your line for ADSL, plus there's a port cost of £8.40 + VAT per month... there's no way any ISP would do a free trial of broadband nowadays.

Like Olly said, it's costing the ISP money to get the connection activated, so free activation and a monthly contract is a pipedream.

ok guys thanks for the replies, need to re-think things.

i suppose my migration to F2S was free because im already adsl enabled and my mother aint so any monthly contract wont be any use either?

You could likely get somewhere running the odd special offer of cheap installation + monthly contract but would probably mean a couple of months connection + mebbe £20 activation.

ok thanks for the info

if i looked for a monthly contract for her would i be able to use the bt voyager modem with another isp to save on equipment costs?

Yes, though any monthly contract would be fine - you'd just have the activation fee to pay (plus the monthly charge).

I don't know of any, and I'd be surprised it any exist.

BTW, you may want to edit your first post and remove the name of the competitor.
