Me and my partner have introduced two female cats into our house that already had a female it (about a year apart). I don't think either time we did it perfectly (we kept them in a room for a day and then put the new cat in the carrier and introduced them).
The first time there were issues (hissing mainly) for about 5 days, but had mostly calmed down by the 3rd. The 2nd time was a little bit more of an issue. After about 4 days both of the existing cats were still hissing at the new one anytime either went near her (the newer of the two even more so, she would moan and growl constantly).
What worked for us was putting the new cat in our spare room with a door stopper to keep the door slightly open (enough so that they could see through and the younder could get a paw through, but definitely sure that the younger cat couldn't get though). We went off to work and by the time we got back the oriignal cat was sat at the door watching the newer cat and from then on were fine together. Took a couple more days for the 2nd cat to fully be happy, but was much better straight away.
