All the unlimited ones have gone & I dont have Bulldog, BE or any kind of LLU in my exchange. I'm on Zen unlimited 2mb now but would love 8mb. Dont wanna have to sacrafice unlimited for it though, but I may have to

BB Max was launched today so you don't need to be in an LLU Exchange area, are Zen not offering it yet?

If not, hang in there I'm sure they will soon.

Unless they're offering it, but capped?

Unlimited 8meg on BT Wholesale services is commercial suicide for an ISP unless they charge the earth for it.

Cable/LLU are pretty much your only options, but Eclipse are currently uncapped and haven't released their Max packages yet so there could be a good package coming from them, but equally they could end up down the same capped route as all the other ISPs :(

I am completely stuck on what to do for the summer, I will need something fast for 4 people sharing, so I originally looked at ADSL2 with bethere, but I really do not like the look of them now.

I don't want to have to plump for 2mb and that is too slow, so now I am hoping Nildram/Zen/Eclipse all bring out some nice juicy packages as I'll be signing up to one of those three without a second thought - imo the three best ISP's in the country (Zen > Nildram > Eclispe) from personal experience :)

F2S are capped at 100Gb (soft cap, they moan if you go over that too often), they also traffic shape usenet :(

Zen offer 8mb but its capped at 50Gb, only good thing is no traffic shaping so I dont wanna change packages :(

Closest to unlimited you're likely to see is the Max Premium (ie what used to be Office) products - but Zen take £73 ex-VAT for Office2000...

NDO do an uncapped (still governed by a fair usage policy though) 8mb max product for just under 40 quid a month.

Why people keep on insisting on uncapped it beyond me, they are the first to moan when the service is ****. It’s always going to be **** poor unless you pay a proper price. Totally uncapped 8mbit is going to cost the ISP well in excess of £100 /month...

I'm about to sign up with Evolution DSL.

£24.99 for 8Mbit uncapped (apparently..)
1 month contract

Will see next week if it's any good! :p

Check for any 'Fair use' clauses in the terms.

True uncapped 8Mb isn't commercially viable unless the majority of your customers are very low level users which is how AOL have managed to do it for so long.

Their T&C's refer to their Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) but the AUP does not appear to be on their web site so you might want to ask for a copy of that.

When I emailed I got this response:

As for unlimited - yes, we provide unlimited transfer with no throttling, shaping, port blocking, forced proxies, etc that the unscrupulous ISPs implement.

Chris

So sounds promising..

Love the 'Unscrupulous' comment :)

I would still request a copy of thier AUP though. They refer to it on the web site and you will be governed by it if you go ahead with them so as well to understand what is in it.

Offering an 'unlimited' service is only financially viable if people don't use it and with the limited number of places that the high usage people can go these days any one basing a business model on 'unlimited' usage and the hope that they won't get a lot of high end users is asking for trouble.

I give them 3 months before they start enforcing an AUP or go bust...either that or they have deep pockets

Worth a try though :)

So basically they are calling some 95% of the ISP's out there including the likes of Zen, Nildram etc 'Unscrupulous'

Sounds like a great company to sign up to...

I think most ISP's have at last realised that offering something totally uncapped is more or less impossible - unless they charge so much more for it.
Again, laugh at them if you like but AOL are one of the few ISP's that are again not introducing caps yet and have no plans on doing so.
Even now they are probably the only dial-up ISP out there that can give you a flat-rate connection with no data restrictions and the ability to remain connected to their dial-up network 24/7 if you wanted.
