Hi

I'm having real problems with getting the shuffle at the start of Pride and Joy. Does anyone have any tips or hints to help me get this part sorted?

Bugger if only I'd seen this earlier.
I've just come back from a practise session with a Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute band because the guitarist wanted to try out my Strat (that he has just customised) and he had me up singing all through it.

Slightly OT, but related to guitar's and SRV at least :o

The first chord in the track "Lenny" is some E varient, but all of the fingerings i've seen are tough unless im not doing something correctly.

e------9-------
B------9-------
G------8-------
D------6-------
A------7-------
E------X-------

Its the E and B strings i'm finding hard to fret at the same time using a double stop bar technique. I can get one or the other, but not both at the same time. :(

Any tips?

Its the Hendrix chord !

Use your pinky to barre both of the frets for the B and E strings.

I think the chord is called Ebadd9

Interesting, but unless you're doing jazzy interpretations you want to go with:
Code:
e------x-------
B------8-------
G------7-------
D------6-------
A------7-------
E------x-------
E7aug9 (well, I guess Eb in Hendrix's case).

Are you talking about the bit where the top 3 strings are played open, alternating with a walking bass line?

If so, the key is in your (left and right hand) muting technique. This technique was a massive part of SRV's sound, with him often hacking at all six strings, but only letting the key ones ring. Try to play some single note runs, but strum all six strings, and try to only let the intended note ring out. Once this is no problem, move back onto Pride and Joy.

I'm lucky, in that it's never been a problem for me, even in the early days, but i know some guitarists who suffer badly. It makes them sound like total beginners when they may have been playing for 5 years.

Yes that is what I'm talking about. Sorry I wasn't so descriptive in my original post, just I was cross at not being able to play it. OK I'll have another go tomorrow. I have been trying to get it nailed (the intro) for the past 4 days now and still can't get to grips with the muting.

Thanks
