Any idea's for a first car

I've been thinking long and hard to what car I want. I'm 17 so i want something which will be resonable to insure.

I've come to conclusion that I may buy a Fiat Punto Mk2 or a Ford Fiesta Zetec S. Looking in towards the Punto as the insurace on the Fiesta is to high.

Any comments on these 2 cars or other suggestions will be most helpful.

You might struggle to insure the Zetec S at a reasonable price. As far as Punto's go, I really cannot stand how they feel. Your sat ON the seat rather than IN the seat, they just don't hold you at all. The 1.2 Engine just feels asthmatic, and the general quality of the interior is just nasty.

What about a 1.25 Zetec Fiesta?
 
Spend 1300-1400 on a good 1.25 fiesta get a years NCB out of it and then get something else. Whatever you do stay away from the punto horible horible cars esp compared to the fiesta.
 
I had a look at the punto and I wouldn't recommend them. I would really suggest a renault clio as the insurance group is really low. My 1.4 RT is insurance group 3 and they fast enough for a first car.

I have a mk2b punto and tbh can't say i have found that I sit on rather than in the seats- i have found the build quality to be fine and it drives really well (could be to do with the letters HGT on the back though) a friend has one with the 1.216v engine in and they have no complaints- best way is to have a go in one when my dad suggested a punto i was horrified but when i tried it out it was great.
 
Have a look at a Fiesta Zetec 1.25

The only thing that the punto has on the Fiesta is insurance.

Punto is group 3
Fez is group 5

The Fiesta should stay reliable for a year. Forget about the ZetecS if your 17........wait till you've got 1yrsNCB.
 
tbh the comment on reliability is fair enough, but when you pay less I find that it doesn't matter too much, only had mine 6 months but no real problems so far- dodgy electric window fixed itself- friends have the 1.25 fiesta and they seem pretty bullet proof just not sure i could cope with the blue oval on the bonnet :p
 
My Punto was reliable, even when I drove round for a month of so with no Oil in it, :D

Not sure where the Oil went mind, something about a cracked cover cap or something.

(Avoid any black puntos 1.2 reg MV 02 NNJ ;) )

Yep no Blue Oval but he gets a Blue Circle :p

Maybe inside but not out.
 
Classic cars for the win!

Beetle, Morris Minor, Hillman Imp, any Triumph etc.

Seriously, don't follow everyone else and get a boring first car - save your money and get something cool :)
