Hello Londoners !!
:)

Can anyone tell me if Paddington is a nice area ?

I'm popping down to London in a month or so and have found a nice cheap hotel in Paddington.
Basically I just need to know its not a dive of druggies and gangstas. ;)

Cheers

Paddington is a nice place to live depending on what part. It is very busy, lively and full of tourist sometimes.....Living there is pretty expensive, so is parking...that all i know.

Penski - those figures are questionable. ;)

EDIT

Since everyone is denoucing london, am doing the same - Im a Nigerian (who can claim black britsh when see fits) living in london. :D

Paddington's really well situated.

You're half a dozen stops from most of the fun parts of London, even less for some areas.

It's generally a nicer part of town. I've never had any problem with "druggies and gangstas" even when I used to go out in Brixton. It's not LA after all - despite not liking this city, it's not that bad from that point of view. I've been to many worse places. The slummy parts tend to be tending towards the outskirts and generally more extreme west and east and south of the river as much as I hate to admit it.

I just live here - I'm not a Londoner and certainly do not feel like one or want to be one.

There's nothing that exciting locally, but it's a short tube journey to get to all the good places. I've never had any particular problems or felt uncomfortable wandering around there, so you're probably onto a winner.

In the day it's great, at night it has the potential to turn into a den of vice. A few hookers around the place, but no worse than anywhere else in London. It's well located and suited to all your touristy needs!

very true, if you can afford it then move there, it`ll be nice for you to spend less getting to places in london,

Well connected on the Underground. I can only think of two major Central London locations you'd have to change lines for, Oxford Circus/Tottenham Court Rd./Piccadilly Circus/Leicester Sq., and Holborn/Covent Garden. Can't otherwise comment, as I've never actually been to Paddington proper, just the station.

I used to work in Paddington for 17 years and never saw too much trouble and as a few people have pointed out, it's ideally located for a quick tube/bus journey into the more lively centre.
