Any Maldives recommendations?

It seems like a big, more family oriented island (it is a 4 star island, apparently). Could it be coupley too?

Funny you say that, thinking about our 2week stay I can only recall seeing two families with kids and they were teens. There's no entertainment for kids so they would get rather bored.
Even though it's one of the bigger islands, there were many times we would walk around and hardly see other people.
As for it being coupley, lots of couples abound at mealtimes and the couples spa package was awesome, the treatment was out on a pier and you are surrounded by water, very nice

What sort of prices are we talking? I would love to go. A friend of mine went and it cost him about 6k for him and his girlfriend and he said it was mid range.

About £7k for one of the highest end islands for 7 to 8 nights, all inclusive. Apart from the Four Seasons' resorts in the Maldives, beyond this range you have the exclusive islands with just a few properties on them - for £10k+.

We are going to Kuramathi on the 1st April for two weeks. We ended up choosing Kutamathi because we wanted to stay on a Jacuzzi water villa (for my 40th birthday) and go all inclusive but unfortunately we couldnt justify the price for doing that at Baros which would have been my first choice as it seems to have fantastic reviews.

Had a look on Kuramathi's own site and saw the accomodation and the facilities and am really excited now.:D

I went to Meeru Island Resort last summer on honeymoon. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to go on a luxury holiday to the Maldives. If you want anymore info, let me know.

Another vote for Meeru, :)

We had our honeymoon at one of the jacuzzi water villas. Had a great time, we only saw a handful of kids who were very well behaved. Most likely due to the lack of chav parents.

As Flukester said is not very near the reef, but unless you are a keen diver then you can just float and snorkel around the island and see sharks, rays etc.

We had no issue with the available all inclusive drinks, but if you have been to Mexico then you might find it a bit restrictive as branded drinks were not included.

There is also a very helpful unofficial forum http://www.meeru.co.uk which has a lot of information about the island. Many posters on there are repeat visitors as they like it so much.

If I had the money I would defiantly go again, but i would stay two weeks and maybe visit some of the other islands.

Even when you say 'Bigger Islands' its probly only a mile or so from tip to tip and not even half a mile across!!..

When I went there were 3 'Resorts' on the island "All Inclusive" at the Top, "Half Board" in the middle (where I was!!) and Posh "Bed and Breakfast" at the bottom... and we only saw maybe 3 families in the 16 days we were there! and none were under 10(ish) years old!!..

You'll love it... perfect island!, any questions on it fire away. Did you go select all inc ? (for all the food on island)

Here is some of the underwater footage I got...

Oh yes an underwater housing for your camera is a must:

Would you recommend the Lumix FT2??

Yeah perfect camera and comes out about top of all of them... there is a FT3 now I think that shoots 1080p rather than 720p, but means you can get the FT2 quite cheap.

I did a lot of research on best camera to take, did buy a Pentax Optio but it shot dire video..

As long as you remember to wash in tap water after being in sea, and carefully brush the seals after charging

Great photos Justin!

Ah interesting - I might take a look at the FT3 for the 1080p. I did wonder why the FT2 dropped 60 quid in price!

I went to the Maldives about 12 years ago, you can't really go wrong anywhere its so beautiful. Go with the amenities you want or need like swimming pool, places to eat, water apartments etc.

Even when I went they had sand bags up as the sea was starting to eat away at them, shame they won't be around much longer (within 50 years?).

One of the best holidays I've had, we came back so relaxed.

Have a good one.
