Any manufacturer's warrenty cover cooler removal?

Some Companies just like to be Asses for the sake of it. They expect you to maintain the card but at the same time sometimes its only possible to totally clean out the heatsink by dismantling it. The x2 series for example had 2 heatsinks in a row so blowing air into one end of it would usually just shift dust down to the lower Heatsink. If it overheats and they find a decent amount of dust, they can void the warranty, if they discover you've removed the heatsink, they can void the Warranty.

Thankfuly some companies actually know what needs to be done to maintain cards and don't mind the HSF being taken off.

this is what i got from XFX

"[SHAUN_T - 25/08/2010 12:15:04] Hi Gary, thanks for your message. Within Europe the warranty is the responsibility of the reseller, so if faulty you would need to contact them with regards to their returns procedure. Yes, altering or tampering with the original cooling solution will void the warranty of the product so we advise against this."

Well OcUK warranty most cards these days.

As they fit their own waterblocks to a lot of these cards I am sure they would warranty it as long as the damage caused is not related to the cooler removal.

Don't quote me on that.

It's fine to remove the stock cooler under EVGA warranty in Europe, got an email back from EVGA Europe tech support guy Florian Brand.

Hi Joe,

Yes it is ok to remove the stock cooler, as long as the board takes no physical damage. And in case of an RMA you need to rebuild the card with the stock cooler. And please don’t mix to thermal pastes.

Kind Regards

Yeah I sent one to HIS.

Could people confirm if they have a card fitted with tamper seals or thread lock ?

Other interesting news,

KFA 2 Stands for "Kick Friggin Ass" apparently

My Msi 470GTX had threadlock on all the backplate screws.:(

Oh and a tamper sticker on the shroud, which was easily peeled back.

Galaxy do , I believe allow removal in the US as long as
'Any modification made to the Product must be reversed prior to shipment back to GXM for warranty service. Product must be in original factory condition to receive warranty service. Determination of damage or defect, as a result of any modifications or overclocking by purchaser, will be at the sole discretion of GXM. Any charges arising due to modification will be the responsibility of the Purchaser. '

But cannot find details of (KFA2) UK/EU policy.

Looks to be same approach as xfx and ,possibly, evga - one warranty for US and ,poorer, one for Europe/UK
