Hey guys, i managed to get a place through clearing at Glamorgan uni to start on the 17th, i have already sorted everything all i need to do now is accomidation. I spoke to the people last week and the halls are full so they directed me to some student pad place which has a few houses on there but all of the contact phone numbers dont work! I know that x amount of people drop out of uni within the first few weeks so they said they would be able to get me into halls eventually. Have any of you guys ever been in a similar situation and what did you do about it?

Thanks in advance for any help :D

The woman at the end of the phone was saying there will be plenty of other people in the same boat as you but she didnt say where they are so i cant try and arrange anything D: i tried posting on facebook but got no answers :/

A friend of mines was in pretty much the same situation as you last year and had to wait until Christmas for a space to open in halls! If you have your name in early for a opening you should be alright tho

Congratulations its a fantastic uni.

Dont stay in halls, Its a lot more fun staying in a house share. I did in Cardiff and drove the 20 mins to uni everyday. It was closer to the partying, closer to the goings on, oh and Cardiff uni have a much better libary than Glam, much better for reading up. Cathays is generaly studentville, and there are lost of places that are really reasonable just off the Crwys Road.

It might not be for you, its what I did, had a blast.

Good luck.

I got into uni through clearing. I had a choice between Royal Holloway and Reading, and I'd get a spot in halls in neither uni.

Reading put me in a host family while I wait for a spot in halls to open up. They get you to meet all the other people in the same boat as you, and advise you go out and check the halls out yourself. I ended up doing so (turns out it isn't too hard to tag along to their nights out/eat in their dining room as if I were a resident there, no one seemed to ask any questions lol), met a few nice people in one of the halls, told uni I wanted to go to that particular one and waited three weeks for a spot to open. I could have lived in different halls and moved in as early as the fourth day of term, but I had my heart set at this point.

In the meantime I had to live with that silly host family which was rubbish but it didn't last long and the rent was much cheaper than halls was. With hindsight I guess it would have been better if I hadn't had to wait 3 weeks because my year in halls is probably the best year of my life :)

My uni didn't have enough halls for all first years.

We were invited to a 'housing day' the week before Uni started where all students that needed accommodation turned up, were put up in halls for a night and then given info packs on local agencies and available houses.

It was then up to us to find a group to share with and find a house together all in 24hrs. A bit stressful but it ended up ok in the end, at least I wasn't living with anyone too crazy and the house was in an ok location.

Surprised they can't offer any similar information for you if you're unable to get into university accommodation.

Thanks for the advice so far! It seems all of the landlords i have tried to contact have been far to busy to answer my calls for the last 4 days! Things are not going well so far haha.
