Any protein based drinks that I just add water to? (Can't drink milk)r

Come on get real there's no bodybuilders on this forums (I've seen the pics thread), just recreational weight lifters. Do you go down to the park in your David Beckham strip and tell everyone you're a footballer?

I can think of at least 2 who post here off the top of my head

Wow, that's a pretty outlandish thing to say.

Why? Show me the scientific studies that weren't sponsored by Twinlabs or someone that shows you need protein supplements. I guarantee you most of it is getting pee'd down the toilet as nitrogen unless you are a 250lb steroid guy.

The mean habitual protein intake observed in these studies was 2.05 g · kg 1 · d 1. Clearly, at these levels of protein intake, assuming that
reported protein intakes from diet records are accurate; these
athletes are meeting their protein requirements by any standard.
Hence, any discussion of “safe” or adequate protein intakes for
strength-training athletes appears to be dubious. Most, if not all,
strength-training athletes are getting the protein intake required for
gaining and/or maintaining any amount of skeletal muscle mass!
Protein supplements, although convenient, are quite obviously
(Figure 6) not necessary for most resistance-trained athletes.
...

There is no evidence to suggest that protein supplements are more
effective than consumption of high-quality protein from standard
dietary sources.

To the OP, take some glutamine after your exercise if you need that emotional boost of supplements, and eat a normal diet.

How do you know the OP can't get the protein intake he requires though a normal diet and therefore needs to supplement, no where is anyone recommending a massive protein intake which seems to be what you're getting at.

There's no 'professional' bodybuilders. Never the less there are bodybuilders. Furthermore I'm sure you'd think that there aren't any skiers on this forum because none ski professionally or that there are no rugby players because nobody, afaik, plays professionally.

Stop giving awful advice as you aren't fully aware of the OP's situation, diet or even training so you have no grounds to base your recommendation of supplementation to him.

It's as bad as the sort of people that recommend using creatine if you want to build muscle to total novices who haven't trained a day in their life.

There are tons of professional bodybuilders, you know the guys getting paid by protein supplement companies and winning cash prizes at events sponsored by protein supplement companies, who make their money from millions of people who don't actually need protein supplements.

I guess he should be taking advice from the websites plastered with banners for protein supplements?

Supplements have their place, most are yes, a waste of money but protein powder comes in very handy.

I never recommend beginners to take any sort of supplements as most the time they rely on them to do the work for them. Diet is so important when building muscle, if you can't get that right, then forgot about supplements.

Wow, thank you for this insight.

Can you please give me some more information about this? Should I use 2 eggs, or 1 because of the cholesterol?

I eat as many eggs as I like because I don't eat much junk food. If you are worried about it use 1 yolk and the rest just the whites. If you are eating the yolks buy organic free range ones which are more nutritious because (hopefully) they are eating insects and proper grains instead of ground up pig faces and cornmeal or whatever they feed cage ones. They taste better too. I take omega3 fish oil but you can also buy eggs that are engineered with omega-3 fatty acids in them.

Just because there aren't lots of professional Bodybuilders here doesn't mean that nobody took offence to your thread in GD.

'Recreational Weightlifters', really? Where do you think the cut-off line is between these 'Recreational Weightlifters' and Bodybuilders? I know plenty of guys here with amazing physiques.

I find it strange that you haven't been banned yet, you're just a troll tbh.

You seem to know an awful a lot about being gay... I mean bodybuilding.

Oh dear.

That article doesn't really support your point effectively I'm affraid. Firstly, it mentions that different levels of required adaptation from exercise require different levels of protein intake, as high as 1.76g per kg of bodyweight. Even assuming that this figure is indeed the maximum requirement, it still requires ~160g of protein per day for a 90kg individual. This isn't as easy as it sounds to get from whole foods, although completely do-able with a little thought.

However, since we are specifically discussing the need for protein supplements, consider the following:

1) vegetarians, who inherently have less protein in their diets
2) situations where total calories are low and some protein from the diet is used for energy
3) cost effectiveness

Please refrain from giving bad advice in the future, despite how much pleasure being a contrarian apparently gives you.

Well I'm glad you aren't also on that bandwagon.

For those that missed my point, I am fully aware that eggs do you no harm and regularly eat 5+ in a sitting.

I run 30 mins a day and lift some light weight weights. Just looking to tone up really and considering I can't eat dairy it'll be a helpful protein source. Anyway, how much of this stuff should I take a day? 1 serving is 30g but it says 2 scoops! How the hell am i meant to measure a 'scoop'?

thanks :)
