Any statistic/maths gurus here?!

Hey all, REALLY stuck on a piece of coursework, basically was a Psychology experiment looking at how appearance affects compliance and well i thought id test it by askign 40 ppl wehn i was dressed smart and 40 ppl when i was dressed scruffily if they mind answering some questions. Im stuck on the analysis part now, because i thought it was a chi square i use to analyse it, but ive used an online chi2 calculator and it says its not significant but the results look significant to me. So ive just got a list of yes' and no's!

Id be EXTREMELY appreciative if anyone could lend a hand helping me with it.

I think this is where you should be using Null Hypothesis.

you can use chi with null it seems: http://www.georgetown.edu/faculty/ballc/webtools/web_chi_tut.html
or rather, you can reject the null hyp from chi.

However, I know nothing of stats.
