shaky hands?

Nope.

Having done a little gentle probing, the Ixus does seem to have a reputation for poor quality images in low-light conditions, mainly due to the stupid amount of pixels packed into a sensor the size of a gnat's suitcase.

I'm not entirely sure that 1/80th of a second on a sensor that small is going to be adequate. Something tells me that you might get a touch of shake if you're not absolutely still, but at the same time I can't believe both of you are doing something wrong, if that is even the answer.

What sort of shutter speeds are you seeing from all of these blurry images? And do you have any sharp images that were shot at the same speeds? And lastly, was the IS enabled?

Thats why I tried bumping the resolution down to 9mp. As 14 is silly for a camera of this size and price.

Shutter speeds seem to vary quite a bit, even on shots taken straight after each other in what I would say are the same lighting conditions. some are 1/60, 1/80 even 1/15 in some of them. Im just not sure. reading around the web (dangerous I know) it seems im not alone in thinking the image quality is duff.

Just looked at a few she took at the family christmas dinner and they are shockingly bad. Time to stick the thing on ebay and see if I can get a s90 or maybe move away from canon altogether. I was looking at TZ8

Just return the camera as faulty - if the camera does not produce acceptable images and the settings are fine then you should be able to return it - it is not fit for the purpose for which it was sold. There's no need to lose out by trying to flog it on fleabay.

Hmm great idea, now why didnt I think of that :p

RMA processed. logged as faulty item, stating nearly every image is blurred. not acceptable for a camera of this price. Just waiting for DHL site to start working so I can arrnage them to pick up the thing.

On the look out for another camera now. Very tempted to give Canon a miss completley. Was never happy with my IXUS 870 IS, and this IXUS 130 is just terrible. The pannasonic is looking tempting its just that the TZ8 doesnt look very pocket friendly for the missus.

Well decided on a replacement. After much reading ive plumped for a Panasonic TZ7. I dont want or need the GPS funtionalty of the TZ10 and reading up it seems the TZR takes better pics than the TZ8.

Lets hope I have better luck with this.

Well bit of an update. I had decided on the TZ7.

1st one I ordered was great, until I tried to switch it off, and it kept switching it selft back on!

Second one switched on and off just fine but when I looked at the pics they were all shockingly blurred. So back it went again.

Both the above was from a camera shop in scotland, they were sold as 'Panasonic factory refurbished, good as new'. They were sold at £140. After 2 duds I gave up and asked for a refund.

In the end I found a genuine looking seller on the bay. Really well mint looked after example. 100% fully working for £120.

It arrived to day. doesnt look like its ever been used. cables, manual everything still sealed and as new. Everything works a treat an the pictures are nice and sharp. So much better then the Ixus 130. Dont think the missus is taken with it yet as the Ixus 130 was so pretty to look at even if it took crap pics.
