Any takers for BT Total Broadband yet?

Think im right in saying that practically all McDonalds are Openzone hotspots.
Would you want to put your notebook down on a McDonalds table?

Also, I have to laugh at the way BT are managing to sell people a VoIP product while still collecting standard line rental fees. The sooner that's unbundled, the better.

I think arguably it's because you're using their line for broadband anyway. But 2 lines > 1 tbh.

ordered option 3 last week and am due to be connected 4/7
does anyone know if i can just add the hub to my existing network as i need more ethernet ports?

The only 2 questions I can't seem to find an answer to are:

If the £26.99pm is with or without the standard rental fee.
If the VOIP goes towards your bandwidth.
Unless you're on the phone for hours a day then the VOIP bandwidth usage will be negligable. VOIP on the GSM codec only uses ~60 Kbit/s. G.711 is the high quality codec and that uses a lot more.

Anyone got their new BroadbandTalk number yet?

Got mine this evening, kinda long number to remember!

Still on the old BT Broadband option 3 right now and I'm not tempted to change it just yet.

Although we are probably paying a little more, the service has been almost flawless since the beginning (been with them for ~3 years).

What I'm waiting for is for Sky to come along with there triple/quadruple packages. Seeing as we have Sky Digital then it may be better off to go phone/tv/broadband with 1 company rather than split between BT and Sky as we do now.

One thing that won't affect my choice is the speed of the package. Our line will only do 1mb fixed (and supposedly ~1.5mb on MAX which again I've not bothered with).

Update if anyone's waiting for their order or thinking of going on this.

Got my HomeHub today.

Nice, not excellent, has a 'cheap' feel to it, but looks very nice, does the job perfect and is smaller than you might think.

There are several lights at the front of the box to show activity (wireless, phone, broadband, etc) which are VERY annoying if the HUB is in full view. So if you're thinking of having this installed then be advised to have it out of eye-view. Likewise, do NOT think you can mount it on a wall. It has no full-flush capability to a wall so is a free standing unit.

As for the VOIP phone...

BT have withdrawn it due to safety issues. So if you've gone onto option 3 (or have paid for the phone seperately), you won't be getting the BT VOIP 1010 phone because they've withdrawn it! If you DO have one, you're advised to return it for a replacement. Replacements are hopefully gonna be sent out within the next 10-15 days.

ordered mine the otherday, mind its a come down for my usage allowance as on option 4 we have recently been upgraded to 50gig :( anyway its come down to £26.99 a month. I forgot to ask the sales person if we would get it for £22.99 since its a new contract... um I wonder if I ring & kick off they will sort it.

On the subject of BT I upgraded to adsl max at the start of May... cant get 8mb so 4.5 is my max totally gutted  I just hope they dont screw my phone bill up again as its taken 2 month to get them to put it back to monthly.

On the subject of the hub again, if I dont like I will return to my netgear router & seperate bb talk 10v adapter, was told by there techies that I can run my system linked with my current netgear router anyway so no real comedown for me if I dont want it on show, lets hop it wasnt lies. :D

was on the phone to them & they said they wont chuck people off the netwrk if they go over slightly as in 1-5 gig so thats not bad.... lets hope it lives up to what its expecting to be... basically a cable company offering.

broadband
phone
tv (like to see this work like)

Well according to BT's website, my telephone and/or postcode has a 4.5mb capability (even though the exchange is 8mb).

WITHOUT the hub, I get a speed of 4.3, however with the hub that speed is increased to 7.1, so there maybe some trickery inside the hub that increases the speed. Unless BT have a hack in the hub that fools the user :D

i have seen the rules they have bit i was wondering if they are bt bt users here who go over and what has actually happened.

I used to go over every month by about 10Gb. After the 4th or 5th month of this constantly happening, I got a telephone call from BT saying that my "Fair usage policy" was been breached, and whilst they wouldn't charge me for the last quarter they did say that if it continued that it would be chargable, unless I went to the higher cap.

However...

Got a friend in BT who says if you purchased BroadBand without the bandwidth limitations, and providing you don't change the service (i.e you went onto BT Broadband about 4 years ago, have stuck with them and will NOT be going onto Total Broadband), then technically/legally they can't do anything if you go over the limit. How true that is I don't know.

well my netgear router says its connected at 7.2, I know for a fact that the exchange can only cope with 6mb. I only recieve 4.5mb despite my neighbour recieving 6mb which is the max for the exchange. Basically its the router saying your connected to the asdl max (what they want U to see up 2 8mb) but realistically you get what bt wholesale say U can have due to line quality.

explained :D router statistics lie hehe

just do an adsl speed test, adsl guide does one

Got my hub this morning, right on queue. Will install shortly.

I too did not get the hub phone, seems normal, although I have read if you are a new customer then BT will be sending out free temporary DECT phones to tide you over, so you will in fact end up with two phones totally approx £140...

I am hoping to use my existing Voyager 2500V as a Wi-fi repeater but I have a feeling it won't work!
