Any way to get faster broadband (long distance)?

Remove the Bell Wire from your BT master socket? Might not give you a huge boost, but what have you got to loose?

Im 333m straight line distance from the exchange, when I provisioned my LLU connection I was getting 14.5mb down and 1.3up, removing the bell wire bumped me up to 19mb down/1.4mb up.

Thanks for the reply, I removed all the unnecessary wires from the master socket a few months ago (only 2 & 5 are connected now) but it made no difference :(

s incredibly high. ADSL should be stable with a SNR down to low single figures. Unless these figures fluctuate widly I'm guessing that BT have messed up your profile and stuck you on a low connection speed, possibly because of a previous fault somewhere.

Would it be worth calling your ISP and getting them to rest your profile (as if you were a new customer) so they go through the stability testing stuff again?

Sorry to bump this topic again but I was just signing up to Sky LLU and they gave an estimated maximum speed of 1.5Mbps, how are they estimating this speed? Everyone seems to think I should get 5-6Mbps at my distance / attenuation but every ISP (even LLU ones) estimate 1.5-2Mbps maximum .

BT are still refusing to help at all but I'm pretty sure there's a fault somewhere because at the moment I seem to be locked me into a downstream IP profile of 130Kbps (~16KB/s) no matter what speed the router syncs at. The upstream is always maxed though.

That's what happened one morning, and now even though it resyned at 2048 Downstream it's still locked into the 130kbps IP profile.

It looks like your line is capped.

You will need to call BT I'm afraid. It might be worth trying the test socket if you've not already done so though.

I phoned BT (for the 5th time) and they finally did a test on the line... "no faults found" the noise margin is currently sitting at 29.4 dB

Sorry to hijack the thread but came to interest for me. Im about 5k straight line from our Exchange. These are my stats. Anyway to improve?

BT are not the people to call regarding this, it's nothing to do with them. You need your ISP to log a fault with Wholesale.

Thanks for all the replies, I think I'm just going to switch to Sky LLU anyway, (hopefully) it couldn't be any worse than what I'm on at the moment and it's half the price I'm paying now.

If I switch from a BT reseller (non-LLU) to Sky LLU if there's a fault will it bypass it, or do I still need to phone Sky when I switch to them?

Depends where the fault is. If it's between the exchange and your house then it's not going to change by moving to Sky.

"Latency type: Fast" means Interleaving is off iirc, This will limit you to a max of around 2.5Mb/s.

Switch to LLU ASAP, If for no other reason than to get away from BT Line Profiles.

You can get a lot higher than 2.5Mbit with interleaving off. In my old house on an oldschool ADSL Max product I used to sync at 8128 stable (the maximum possible on that tech) with interleaving off.

I thought that initially but after re-reading his post I think he means more specifically for the OP with his line stats as 2.5Mb with Interleaving OFF sounds about right for his line attenuation.

BT really only look at the current state of your line including any faults on the line or at the exchange, they then quote that speed as the best your line can achieve. The reason they do that is simple if they tell you whatever speed your getting is the best you can get they don't have to fix the problem.

I was with BT getting 1.1MBPS and BT claimed that was as good as I could get. After a couple of years I removed the bell wire and my speed jumped to 3.5mbps, it took over 6 months for BT to update their system to show my line was capable of 3MBPS.
A year later my speed suddenly dropped to 2.3MBPS, BT test results now claimed my speed was only capable of 2.5MBPS.
Before I left BT I did various speed tests from different providers and got various results ranging form 2MBPS to 4.8MBPS. In the end I joined O2 who gave the best results in testing. The slowest speed I've seen from O2 is 4.9MBPS around this time of year and in summer it's usually 5.5MBPS or more.

The point I'm making is that line tests are not very reliable, some get their info from BT others do their own test and some just guess based on line distance.

02 LLU is a massive improvement over the BT system, whenever I connect I get the best speed my line can achieve at that time. With BT it can take weeks to get to the best speed and you can lose it all with just one dropped connection.
